Out of that bunch I would only agree with The Runaways (not for how long they were around but simply for their influence), Styx (for their boundary stretching), Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick and Heart. But not Neil Diamond?

It's a shame that Duran still gets singled out for their videos. It's good that they get some credit for that, but it's sad that for the press (and perhaps the general public), videos are the only thing Duran ever contributed.

Your right.. but I guess you could look at this way. They changed the way music was presented. Sure not single handedly but they were one of the first band to be recognized for the unigue vision that they brought to the video scene. Their video's propelled them to HUGE superstar status. Their faces were everywhere. Today is seems common place but Duran Duran were the leaders in music video's. I guess, to simplify, While Duran Duran aren’t the reason that we have all these shitty promotional things on MTV, ESPN, FOX, NBC, BBC.. etc. .. but people (executives) learned that a face is a very important part in perception and the prettier the face the more people want to see it. Is this Duran Duran's fault.. NO. Is this their legacy... I think yes.

I agree Duran do deserve some credit for being pioneers in video. They pushed for that look and presentation, so I don't want to belittle their vision. But as we all know they have contributed so much more to music than just the way a band should market themselves and it's sad and a little frustrating when they are just written off as the band that made groundbreaking videos in the 80s. While that is a significant milestone, it also maybe steps on the toes of those music video directors (like Mulcahy) who collaborated with Duran for those videos.

I know that to get in to the Hall an argument has to be made for a band's contribution to music.
So what can we say DD did to further the evolution of music? And the answer the Hall's looking for will probably not include anything about video. It has to be solely about music.

I think DD DESERVES to be in the Rock N Rol Hall of Fame. Other than DD the only one on the list that should join DD in the hall is Bon Jovi. DD has contributed some great music. The 1st DD album, Rio, as well 7 & the Ragged Tiger & The Wedding Album have some pretty darn good songs on them. Besides, the way I see it, if the highly OVER-RATED U2 are in then DD should be too!!!!!!!! DD have also influenced some bands as well, The Killers, Your Vegas, Scissor Sisters just to name a few.

I'd like to see the institution quietly go away, personally. It's another example of back-slapping, ass-kissing industry bullshit.

Who kidnapped Randy and put Mr Sensible in his place??!! I was wondering the same thing. Randall's last couple of posts have included sensible stuff like Duran probably won't ever chart again, but at this point we should just be happy they are still making music (which is pretty much spot on). Not to mention he hasn't slammed the fanbase every chance he's gotten. Maybe Mr Sensible is staying at Randy's house for a few weeks, and is logging into this account every time he goes down to the shops
