It's an excellent album that encompasses the best of Duran Duran classic moments from their very early days, as well as the mid 80's and their lean 90's period.
It even has some touches of ''Meddazaland'' thrown in for good measure
I won't go through each track right now, suffice to say that my favorite is a song that nobody seems to be talking about...''Before the Rain'' is just amazing, I find myself thinking of ''Seventh Stranger' and ''Lady Ice'' it's a real grower.
Thats another thing, the album is immediate for long time DD fans, but it's also a grower as these songs I feel will resonate more with me in time, which is a good thing as I find the best albums are the one's I have to put a bit of work in with.
I really enjoy the album, Mark Ronson has certainly re captured the classic Duran Duran sound to an extent that no one else has in the past 20 years, then again the band weren't looking for it.
Where does it rate in the DD cannon??? For me....somewhere between Notorious / Big Thing and Meddazaland ......It's NO RIO it's NO ''Duran Duran'' those records just can't be bettered or matched IMO.
I'm listening to ''Safe'' as I type this and I get the feeling of ''Meet El Presidente''......thats what I mean....AYNIN is a little of everything that has made Duran Duran great for the past 3 decades!!!!

This record is like the love child of Rio and Pop Trash. That's a very good analogoy, I am hearing a little of the best of each Duran Duran album in their career. There is New Wave/Pop/Funk/atmospheric....but it gels into a excellent album.

I agree. I wonder how long this will last. That's the true test. How it sits over time. Rio and Duran Duran can be played over and over and over. Almost (if not all) fans feel that well. But it's the test of time that marks a truly great record. Upon first listen, I loathed Red Carpet Massacre. But after a few months, I began to really get into it. Now I think it's stronger than Notorious and Ragged Tiger. Right now, I can easily say that I think AYNIN is a return to form. But we'll see how long this lasts. But given that I've already listened to Being Followed 50+ times in three days, it'll looking good for this record. I was like that with ''Meddazaland'' and even ''Pop Trash'' I was playing both as recent as last night and still really enjoy those albums for the experimental stance that they took on them. AYNIN sounds more immediate but for me will take a lot of further listening to ''discover'' it fully. It's more varied than ''Seven & the ragged Tiger'' but that was when I first saw DD live so holds a special place in my DD fandom LOL I wish Simon could go back and sing this album the way he sang the first 3 LOL, his voice has improved but it's got too much ''sheen' if that makes any sense I still enjoy the low key sound of his voice on the debut. I would also love to hear Andy let rip on some of the tracks here or Warren, though to be fair Dom does a great job and its the most guitar on a DD album for a long time !!!

"Before The Rain" sounds like the sequel to "The Chauffeur" (which is a good thing IMHO).
I love the whole album, apart from "Safe" which is sleezy and doesn't really sound like Duran Duran. I think the album takes most of it's sound from "Rio" and the first album but it also contains elements from "Seven & The Ragged Tiger" and "The Wedding Album" as well. My top three songs are "Runway Runaway", "Being Followed" and "Mediterranea" with "The Man Who Stole A Leopard", "Before The Rain", "Blame The Machines" and "Girl Panic" in close second together.

And you can hear "The Chauffeur" as well. Or is it just me? Lol.
Then again, "The Man Who Stole A Leopard" also sounds like "The Chauffeur" at the start...
