I like Randal too, but I still don't agree with you guys about RCM. I thought the album was mostly crap (for me), and I still do. So what? I can rip that album up one side and down the other as easily as you all can call it greatness - but it still doesn't make a bit of difference and we can both still be right because ultimately it still just comes down to opinion. I can accept that my tastes are different and that even though I don't like it, other people do and that's OK. That said, I'm not surprised that some people liked it. I'm also not surprised that some non-Duranies liked it. In fact, I would imagine that a lot of non-Duranies liked it. I would argue that it sounded nothing like a lot of their other work, and so if you're not into some of their other stuff, maybe you'd be into RCM. Fantastic, and there's even room for all of us in their fan base!

Wow! This is proof indeed. Makes you wonder why RCM sold only 5 more units than that tour de force album called Poop Trash (incidentally Durans worst album EVER!!!!) 2 words... Illegal downloads... LOL!!

I don't know why they don't blame the band for it, they are the ones that made the album, they are the ones that wrote the songs, and performed on the songs. I mean, the same argument is being made for Ronson's involvement. Oh, believe me, I damn well blame the band for RCM.

RCM: John and Roger both said that at least 3 songs were written for them before they entered the studio. John said that after the third song he put his foot down and insisted that he be allowed to contribute. He then said that there were no guitar parts, he simply played the bass and guitar an octave apart.
If someone wants to look, I'm sure the articles are in the back pages here somewhere.

When I went to the DD page on iTunes, it has the Top 5 singles & albums!
For some reason Falling Down was #1 AND #4 on the list and RCM was #1 for albums!
I personally liked the album but it's kinda funny that it's #1! hmmmmm.....

I loved RCM and I LOVE AYNIN! but everything DD does makes me Happy I love my band! Me too! but I've especially loved their last 3 albums (including AYNIN) since, reallly Notorious. I wasn't too keen on Big Thing as the second half reminds me alot of all of Pop Trash which is ok for me.

Palomino and Land are two of the best DD songs, both on the second half of the album. I loved Big Thing. I love many of the songs on RCM, especially Tempted. Also, as RCM was being compared to Pop Trash, I think Dirty Great Monster would have fit into that album. And I love that song. I know it is not a favourite, but there is something hauntingly beautiful about it to me.

Milt,
At the initial session, there was a bass player in the band, and in fact they were expecting Andy to show up. So, yes, there should have been guitar parts written. Drum parts, too. Did you miss the recent interview where John says Tim didn't know what a bass guitar is?

You need to prove that they didn't use any tracks.
At no point in time has anyone connected to RCM said that there were extra or discarded tracks or tracks that could be used as B sides. In a postcard, Nick indicated that there were no other songs. In every post (including Wikipedia) listing extra tracks, those tracks were later proven to be from the Reportage sesions, or rumor, or flat-out lies.
