I know a couple of people that love RCM and pretty much hate anything the band has done apart from Rio (the song not the album) so it's not too much of a suprise to me.

Wow! This is proof indeed.
Makes you wonder why RCM sold only 5 more units than that tour de force album called Poop Trash (incidentally Durans worst album EVER!!!!)

You can't generalize, but of course there are people for everything. But in the 90's i knew non Duranie people who really loved Liberty, cos they thought it rocks... RCM is not a crappy album, it has great tunes, and solid compositions.
Glad some of those RCM listeners now are giving this new album a chance

I really don't know how anyone can call Pop Trash a crap album. It baffles me when people think RCM is better.
The problem is Pop Trash is not a conventional Duran Duran album, in that the songs are stripped back to either acoustic or one synth layer arrangments.
It is a ballads album, very intelligently written ballads, very nice chord changes and lovely lyrics.
Someone Else Not Me Starting To Remember Pop Trash Movie Lady Xanax The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever
(I can only think of Box full O Honey as the only song to come close to any of these on RCM)
Someone Else Not Me is a great melody and one of their best crafted ballads. Have a go at playing it on guitar or piano and i'll bet you'll smile at how simple the chord changes are to genius effect.

I actually like Pop Trash A LOT better than RCM. Pop Trash has a harder edged rock album, whereas RCM sounds too hip hop for me (I like good hip hop, not trash). I can't stand Justin Timberflake and think he's overrated, same with Timbabland.
I haven't listened to most of the clips on AYNIN (though I've gotten a few songs in my email) and to be honest if the album sounds too hip hop or pop I'll pass this time. If I like the sound I'll buy. I do like that they worked with the one guy from the Kaiser Chiefs and I like them.

I don't care if Timbabland or Danja produced the album it didn't sound like a DD album, it sounded like a pathetic attempt by a middle age group to be accepted by teens. I also don't care that Timberflake was on and that's "he's so popular". So is Susan Boyle but I don't want her on a DD album either.

I agree. I think RCM has a few issues on it, but it's still classic Duran. It's not as immediate, and it's less musical than other ventures. But the lyrics and melodies are Duran Duran through and through. Same with All You Need is Now (except it's far more immediate). Danja did an amazing job on Skin Divers and Zoom In. And even though he plagiarizes himself, I have to say that the new hip-hop-electro sound really worked with the band. It was the trapped-in-the-80s fans used to hearing the Rio-sound that hated RCM. In my opinion anyway. Actually, I don't hate RCM, unlike many, but didn't think it was all that either. I've listened to it exactly twice and have a few songs on my iPod. I am far from trapped in the 80's, but yes I do loathe most music today, because most sounds like recycled garbage (like Timberflake).
