I spoke with my pals at a local radio station that's very DD friendly. By that, I mean new material always gets a tryout, and then pulled if it becomes a dud on the charts. Once I called in, was on-air, requested 'Someone else not me' and it was played within 10 mins. Classic catalogue material is still popular...almost daily especially during 80s day (Wednesdays).
Anyway, this station hasn't seen a copy of All You Need Is Now and, like me, cannot download it from iTunes. It can however play a 320 kbps MP3, which is not officially blessed and sanctioned by Duran Duran.
Should it play an MP3 from a ripped album? Some of the holier-than-thou fans would shit fire and brimstone for that. I do know music gets programmed and includes MP3s sometimes. Or should it wait for a hardcopy single, which it might never get? In which case, the new song won't get played at all.
