Hey all. With the recent appearances of some highly collectible Duran Duran stuff on Ebay, I got to thinking about the choices of getting these things - bidding versus buying. As collectors, whom here prefers one over the other and why? From a standpoint, I can see why some places sell (because most of them are likely businesses), but does this detract from the overall "experience" of getting things?
Personally, I like bidding for things. It's the thrill of the hunt trying to get that item you want.

Depends how bad I want the item. If it's something I really want and it's on "buy it now" for a good price then I prefer buying it. Bidding is indeed very exciting but there always the risk not getting the item, and having the feeling afterwards that you could have had it...

Well, the thing with "buying" is that if there's truly a collectible item, then it's gone before others have a chance to view or even go after it. Also, if the item goes for auction, the seller might get more for it than had they put it up for "buy it now".

I prefer buying @ a good price. ;-D I would much rather not bid because I can't afford most items by the time all the crazy people are done. I just can't pay huge money. BUT, on some items, bidding works well because they start low and sometimes you GET it low. That programme for Simon in The King and I was about $5 including shipping!!! I was apparently the only bidder. I will have to find a way to get it signed. Besides, I want to see the look on his face.

It was the week he turned 8. He played along with a bunch of kids from his school in the chorus as one of the King's children. Apparently there were many. I posted pics here a while ago. I think there is still a thread somewhere in here. Have to look.

Hmm, apparently there are only 2 pages of posts actually visible, so my thread is gone. I will post again sometime. I don't have time right now. I need to get ready for my trip to LA.
