Am I the only one? I have purchased more vinyl stuff in the last few months than I had in a long time via eBay and time after time I receive the item and the condition is so much worse than was stated in the listing. Am I the only one? I've had to file 4 claims in the last few months. All were resolved by issuing me a partial or even an entire refund but what's the deal?!
Here are some examples:
A depeche 12" - the listing showed a colored vinyl version and being in "NM" condition, it arrived smelling like sewage, large patches of the cover missing and water damaged and the original black vinyl. I had to fight with this guy about it and I eventually lost $10 on the deal.
Another Depeche 12" that was listed in NM and it not only lacked the inner sleeve but all 3 seams/spine were torn through, and paint splattered across the cover! It was shipping in an oversized record mailer with NO spacers so the record was flopping all over.
Duran Brazilian copy of TWA, seller never mentioned large ink pen writing on back! It was deep pen writing.
Arcadia Promise Japanese 12" seller never mentioned a large bar code taped on the cover!!! Otherwise in perfect condition, sadly.
I've had a couple other 7"'s with writing on them. These were disclosed but the photos were taken just right to really make it look minimal and I thought for the cheap price it might be worth it to me but when they show up it's in far worse condition... Ales a couple CD singles too - listed as NM and end up with cracked cases and really spotty disc surfaces.
Wtf!?

my skin trade 12 inch from france came with a greeting card stuck to the back. the previous owner had tried to pull it off, but ripped part of the sleeve and then left it...
that wasn't part of their ebay listing. i got most of the money back but i was still pretty pissed. that's just cheating people. how could you not notice that it had that wrong with it??

I was bidding against you on that one . I saw there were two being sold by the same seller. I asked the seller if they actually had two or what happened but never got a response (I think the seller posted their sale on this forum)... but now it makes sense, I suspect the first buyer received that record and returned it. I also noticed the first auction that record sold for a really good price while the second auction it went for around $90 I think... Sorry to hear you got shafted.... I feel your pain. I think for me I am most disappointed about the Promise 12"... It IS in almost perfect condition aside from that stupid sticker ! I can't figure out why it's there. It almost looks like a library type thing - you know how books and CDs at libraries have bar codes affixed to them?

i got my skin trade about 3 years ago, so not sure if it's the same one or not...
the sticker on the promise could be from a rental shop. lots of vinyl in japan was rented just like videos. my copy of the BIG THING album with the poster insert was an ex rental. and that just goes to show you the honesty of japanese people. the thing was rented for years and not one person ever took the poster out before they took it back. here that poster would have either been taken out by the store before they rented it, or stolen by the first renter. LOL

Recently I got this Canadian 7" of Skin Trade off Ebay and while the seller had a picture of the front of the sleeve, they should have put one of the back as there was a small pen marking on the back of the sleeve. It's not huge, but it's still marred what I would consider to be a collectable sleeve. I already have a Canadian 7" of ST, but this one I got for just .99 cents, so I really shouldn't complain - but at the same time the seller should have noted the pen mark on the back. I've noticed that lately Ebay and Paypal have not been the easiest to deal with in terms of getting a refund or stating a case. Last year I was chuffed at getting my hands on the Italian 12" of Come Undone, only to receive the record in somewhat less than perfect condition (basically the record had split / been broken either before shipping or during transit). The surface of the vinyl itself was in near mint condition, but it pretty much arrived in just about two pieces due to extremely poor packaging. I filed a claim with Paypal, but was denied. When it comes to selling / auctioning records/cds on Ebay, the seller really needs to adhere to the Record Collector grading system or at least really give it a good look over in the light so that they can note any blemishes. In their description, they really need to be exact about any defects with regards to the sleeve and / or artwork of a CD. Whenever I do auctions on Ebay, I make it my goal to make a detailed listing of the item and I always have a picture or pictures. oktobercolours - I don't see how you could have lost your claim of $10 for that DM 12" since you didn't receive the item you bid on. That just sux. As for that French Skin Trade 12", I know the one you guys are talking about and steered clear of that one!

i agree, ebay should have some better defined rules about grading of vinyl and collectibles in general. it's always been an issue.

On that DM 12" what happened was I bought it but the shipping was insufficient so I sent a separate payment as requested. So I won the claim for the main purchase but lost out on the separate non-eBay payment I made. I even told the guy "look, you still didn't lose anything since the record isn't worthy of a landfill itself and you were paid to ship it to me". It was shipped from Australia. Oh, when I included my statement about it smelling like musty sewage, he responded by saying it was because it was in a minor flood but that it shouldn't affect anything... The guy sold literally 100s (maybe 1000s) of stuff and his ratings were pretty good, but not spotless.
I forgot to mention that I also got a hold of the one-sided yellow label PE 12" and unbelievably, the seller (again from Australia) put the record in a large oversized 16"x20" padded envelope, and Nothing else. No cardboard, no Mylar, nothing. It amazingly made it to me in ok condition but I sent the seller a note saying that while it arrived safely it behooves them to provide adequate packaging.
I can attest to Japanese sellers being very honest and perfect at packaging.
Figital - that was a different Skin Trade that you have as the one I'm referring to was up on eBay about a month ago from a seller in France.
So yeah, it's been a LOT of inferior items lately.

i also had some rick springfield records that i bought.. i got them cheap but they were in such bad shape that i tossed them.

Wow, I would have filed claims. I would also make sure to leave negative feedback. Are there any websites that compile names of bad sellers on Evil-Bay? There should be. A place you can type in a name of a seller before you do business and see feedback from buyers. I know there is SOME on EB, but I don't think it tells you enough. I want a place where people can post WHY they had a problem and if they know a person has changed a name on an account.
