Alec's first tooth came out last week. I checked his mouth to see if the new one was growing in yet, and I see that it is. I also see two other teeth growing in behind his baby teeth. Ugh. It's off to the dentist. I was warned by his previous dentist that he will need braces when he gets older. I guess she was right. There's not enough space. I am so bumming out for him.

both my girls have a small mouth for their teeth, we had to have teeth pulled to make room.
But having them pulled made the room and their teeth are not all crooked like they could be

ivy-
My daughter's bottom front teeth did that. Her permanent ones came through behind her baby teeth. It's not abnormal. The natural movement of their tongue actualy pushes the permanent one forward and forces the baby tooth out. Now, if the baby tooth is NOT loose at all, then it's a problem.
Trust me, it's ok.

Thanks for easing my mind. I will call the dentist in the morning and get him in to make sure everything is okay. In any event, the tooth fairy is going to be pretty busy this month!

When it first happened, with her first tooth, I totally panicked. I called her dentist and he wanted to make sure the baby tooth was loose, and it was . The permanent tooth actually moved forward and pushed the baby one out, LOL.
Her teeth are fine now!

I might be way off by saying this, and I'm certainly no dentist. But any dentist that can tell at 6 that a child will need braces sounds like he's fishing for a new boat or something. I don't know, maybe I'm just a little cynical by having gone to dentists who want to pull all of my fillings out and replace them when they were just put in.
When I was younger my upper canines came in over the baby teeth that were there.

This was based on his x-rays. We have moved since then and he's seeing another dentist, but the one who said it is a really well respected pediatric dentist in San Francisco. She is pretty conservative.
I know what you mean though. I went to this guy who had all this state of the art technology and was a very good dentist. He tried to tell me I had to have $10,000 worth of dental work done and that my teeth were like those of someone 30 years older than me. This guy, by the way, doesn't accept any insurance. I went to somebody else who said he was whacked and that my teeth are fine.
