by the way the only songs i know from this band is dont you and sanctify yourself. never liked this band. you (and everyone else who might not be familiar with these albums) should go back and check out the albums that are mentioned above. especially the 2nd to 4th. the first SM album is good, but the other 4 are some of the best new wave music ever made. dd were big fans of early simple minds. 'don't you' is a classic, but that is at the end of them being great. the second to fourth (and even fifth) albums are superb. to me, the later ones pale in comparison. changeling, i travel, love song and someone somwhere in summertime are some of my fave songs from the early records. if they bring that tour to canada, i'm there!!

Agree, Simple Minds made Don't You Forget About Me a classic. Great performance - even though it wasn't their song! The synths are sublime

I do love Once Upon a Time, though part of that probably has to do with it having been recorded near me, and getting the chance to run into the band during that time. Mel Gaynor gave me a pair of his drumsticks and they were like swinging a pair of baseball bats.

Good times ahead for Simple Minds fans. We have the 5x5 tour, the 16th studio album, the 'Simple Minds x5' box set containing remastered versions of the first five albums (including all the B-sides and demos from that era, some of them never previously released) plus the 'Greatest Hits' box set, all coming next year!
And if the new album sounds like this, then we're in for a treat. I'm hooked on this song, it's just the best thing they've made in such a long time, I can't wait to hear the studio version. The keyboards, lyrics, guitar and drumming are all so typical of classic Simple Minds...
They definitely seem to be making a conscious effort to 're-connect' with their early sound, what with the 5x5 tour and working with Sons & Fascination producer Steve Hillage for the new album.

I wondered if it was Sisters Feeling Call instead of New Gold Dream, but I know it was originally a double LP. Yeah, Sister Feelings Call was first release on vinyl as a double pack with Sons and Fascination, and soon after as a standalone vinyl and cassette. Same recording sessions, and the two "halves" have now been reunited on remastered CD. So they count it as one album (and actually, I just read the press release on the 5x5 set and it will have them each on their own disc, with the restored Sister Feelings Call artwork on a gatefold sleeve - so, "5" albums over SIX discs)! Sisters used to be looked at as sort of the "leftovers" album, but if I had to pick one "half" or the other, I'd actually pick it over Sons, as it has my three favorite songs from the whole batch, Theme For Great Cities, 20th Century Promised Land, and The American! Edit: I didn't have the full release Sons/Sisters history correct, but this kick-a** site does: www.simpleminds.org/sm/discog/sfc/sfclp1.htmGood times ahead for Simple Minds fans. Thanks for the heads up on the 5x5 set! Surprised I hadn't heard about it yet through their mailing list. I've got a bunch of unofficial Minds demo and b-side stuff...hopefully 5x5 will have some I don't have - though having it remastered and all gathered together will be worth it! So much great stuff. Special View, Garden of Hate...on and on!

No problem If you like 'Special View' and indeed the first few Simple Minds albums, then you really should check out the 2011 single 'Still Life' by The Horrors. The resemblance to early Simple Minds is unmistakable...

The resemblance to early Simple Minds is unmistakable... Nice...I definitely like it (plus I just found out the the mp3 is free on Amazon right now). Certainly is a twin sister to Special View in its chord progression and instrumentation, though I get more of an Inspiral Carpets feel out of the vocals. Much like the Carpets, this is a nice blend of '60s and '80s influences. I will definitely check out more from this band. Thanks for another good tip!

How about just getting Duran to play 2 songs from EVERY album?! Just once play a song or two from albums they never perform live. Maybe I could hear Be My Icon again. And Dom would KILL on Lady Xanax. Maybe we could actually hear Shadows over here on the West Coast. >=( Palomino, Playing with Uranium. *sigh* I know. It will never happen.
You know every year, Rick Springfield plays a set of 4 gigs in one city and he does entire albums and also all request shows? I wish I could get to one of those.

The 30th anniversary of 'Rio' is next year. Maybe they will play the entire 'Rio' album live? I can't think of a more fitting way to celebrate the occasion.

I think the band are generally aware of long-term fan interest, and have made some great considerations to us. This past tour's set lists were pretty inspiring! Having heard most of albums 1, 2 and 3 live, I would instead totally dig a 1985-86 setlist, with So Red The Rose (all), Power Station (4-5 songs), VTAK (Orchestral), Notorious (3-4 songs with "Winter" a definite), JT's "I Do What I Do" & SLB's "Grey Lady" for fun. Red Rocks Amphitheatre, CO...Winter. More far-fetched and desirable for me would be the Liberty tour that never was, promoting that album, plus revisiting Big Thing and anything else. And yes, with Warren. But we live in 2011. They can play whatever they want. And, I only recently got into early Simple Minds. Very much worth the attention. I would see them live in the USA. Does anyone else hear "Friends of Mine" in this...
