Good question.
If the Greek Theatre poster is fake, the person who made it certainly did their homework. Tickets for Duran's US and Canada 82 tour did cost around $12.50, such as the Edmonton, Canada gig in July.
The photography featured is by Nancy Campbell, used on many flyers and poster during this period.
I think most people faking would print 'The Rio Tour', but this poster reads 'Rio North American Tour'. It looks more authentic and they took into account the Canadian gig.
But yes it looks VERY suspicious two extremely rare items have just appeared together.
The seller has marked them 'repros', from what original artwork or source?

I have definitely never seen either of those. Ask Durandy. If he hasn't seen anything like that, I doubt it is real. I wonder though, about those posters like the Tara whatever her name is one that came out for the LA gig with that picture of the girl illustrated. That one seems to be popular, but I never saw anything like it posted around here when that show happened. I bought one anyway, just because it was cool. But I wonder if these, especially the MSG one were like that.

Limited edition of 400, all Silkscreen printed. She produced the posters for a client called Goldenvoice, which organizes shows for bands all along the West Coast.

I think Derek realizes both posters are non-original, and 'made up' by the seller, but is the overall design and layout a copy of another (non-DD) poster?
I'd vote for no. Unless it was a gig flyer, cobbled together by some club promoter?

The second one with the snake definitely looks recent. That font used in Duran Duran has become popular lately, and I doubt it would have been used in this manner back in 1984.
The first one looks suspicious too, based on the fonts. They're not the fonts that would have been popular and been used at the time or used in that way. But that one is harder to tell.

Well, I was glad to have it anyway. I got a good price for it @ the time. I have seen it go for a lot more.

also, you should be aware there are repro versions of the tara mcpherson posters that have sold on ebay for a lot less.
the easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the poster with a magnifying glass. if it has dots it's a repro. if it's smooth and has no dots, it's a screen print.
as well, the originals are signed and numbered at the bottom.

Oh yeah, mine is signed and numbered. I have also seen some of those repros as having a smaller size, I think. I bought mine fairly early on when they were listed.
