Interesting to think--they recorded the songs in Andre Agassi's home in San Fransciso--how much did they pay him for that? lol According to Andy's book, they just used the house to get some demos going for some songs, and apparently Agassi gave them the house to use free or charge! Aside from studio and catering costs, of course...

great find! thank you No problem, it was pretty exciting making the last few connections and finding that ASCAP treasure trove! Some very cinematic song titles in there -- I especially like Angel Fire, Midnight City, Lions And Wolves, Cathedral, and Under Snow. Criminals In The Capitol makes more sense too, meaning criminals in the legislature instead of the capital city. It's interesting that they registered all of Reportage but none of the unreleased Astronaut demos besides Beautiful Colours and Virus. (Know It All is also listed as "I Know It All"). Wouldn't it be great if they released Beautiful Colours as a future single for a an updated greatest hits or a deluxe edition of Astronaut, like U2 did with The Sweetest Thing? It must be the most popular song they've never released! I'm not sure if the ASCAP system is sequential, but Reportage might have been registered more recently than the songs from All You Need Is Now. Those have Work ID codes starting 8823-4 while the Reportage songs are all in the 8837 range. Maybe they needed to register them to settle legal issues with Andy? Andy's search results page includes the songs he's written with Luke Morley and Rod Stewart, and We Fight For Love is listed as "Commando Cues". The original 5 are also given credit for a song called ADORE (YACHTS IN SPACE MIX) by Renee Stahl, which I'm guessing probably includes a Duran sample.

I also thought Andy mentioned that since Duran played at Andre's charity gig concert in Las Vegas he threw in the use of his home as a way of saying thanks. I could be wrong, or maybe read that somewhere else. I'm really digging the Reportage titles. I WANT TO HEAR THIS ALBUM!

Great show. I got to see Earth Wind and Fire because of that.

Intravenus, thank you for the great news. Anyway, your Wikipedia article seems to suggest that Timbaland was somewhat responsible in Andy's leaving, which, according to the same AT's bio, was not.
In the real world, Andy lost a plane, raged with the management, disappeared from sight and lost his place in the band. He was later diagnosed with clinical depression connected with his father's death.

So, his behavior had an explanation. Were these things enough to kick him out of the band?

Even though I'm curious about Reportage, I'm not holding out any hope that it will be any kind of revelation. I was sorely disappointed with Astronaut. To me it sounded pretty much like Warren's Duran Duran and was sad that I didn't hear any real Andy in the album or any of the "classic" sound (except maybe in Nice and Beautiful Colours). I'm thinking Reportage will just be a continuation of Astro.

I'm sure it's in the book somewhere, but I think the house was sort of "lent" to them, and Andy added something about Agassi having no idea what was going on while they were there! Good stuff. I suspect we'll hear this album at some point. Now the question of "when" is another thing altogether!
