PPL licences the playing of recorded music on radio, television and public places across the UK - and analysed its exclusive data to find out the most popular Birmingham artists of the 21st century so far.

Surprised by two things:

1. No Black Sabbath or Judas Priest songs made the list (at least Paranoid or Iron Man & Breakin' the Law or You Got Another Thing Coming).

2. That I had no idea any of the bands on the list besides Duran were from Birmingham! OK, so I had forgotten about UB40, but I never had any idea bout ELO, Moody Blues, Steve Winwood etc.! Don't see how Thin Lizzy qualify though, as they were formed in Ireland. Anyway, some tremendous music has come out of that little industrial town in the last 50 years!
