Wow. It seems the Paris Virgin Megastore is no more. What a disillusionment.

I remember travelling to Paris as a budding record collector, one day in December circa 1987 (i.e. about 17 years old) and concluding that in France, even Paris, there are hardly any specialist record stores* but what made my day was just before I had to travel back I discovered the Virgin Megastore at the Champs-Elysees that had only just opened. The most beautiful (however pompous) record store I had ever seen. On all my trips to Paris since, the VM was a fixed part.
*As far as I can recall, France has never had much of a record store culture like you'd find in, for instance, the UK. Instead, it seems, the French simply bought their records at the Hypermarché.
Another spot on my mental map of record stores in the world wiped out...
