Highlights from Roger’s 2014 Year End Kafe with Katy…who continuously put her annoying and irrelevant 2 cents in throughout.
“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” 30 year anniversary
• To this day, he finds the song “annoying” because he hears it every year.
• He was amazed that the people that turned up because it was a time in music when musicians didn’t normally hang out together and here they were all in the same room. It’s different today.
• And yes, Roger was hung over.
Best of 2014
Favorite Concert
• Peter Gabriel at Wembley
• Met him at a dinner party a few months ago and resparked his interest in him
• He considers Gabriel one of the best artists of the 80s
• So - he considers it his best album of the 80s and he played it in it’s entirety at the concert
• Was in the 2nd row right in front of the PA system
• “In Your Eyes” – the encore and best song
• Album is very “light and dark” with the songs
• The drummer, Manu Katché, one of his favorite drummers
Favorite Album
• Album by Jungle – a SW band in London
• Album by Coldplay, which was mixed by Spike Stent
Best Event
• Huge personal event: Julian was a shepherd in first nativity play! He sang, had lines and danced!
• Katy rambled on about Tanner and playing drums and Roger admits that he “taught myself (to play drums) so I’m probably doing everything wrong.”
Best DD Moment
• Austin
o Cool, longer show, brought back their appetite for playing live, and loved watching the Grand Prix
• Teenage Cancer Trust
o Fun because they had “real” fans in the front
• DD Album
o This year has been about finishing up the album
o Mixing and signing off on the mixes
o They’ve been spending 10-12 hours a day in the studio
2015
• Finishing the album, escaping the studio, people hearing it and playing it
• Looking forward to the time when they “let it go to the world”
• Get the business side done over the next few months
• Back on the road!
• His guess on when we hear music from DD14: by April-May, but “we are working on Duran time.” *laughing*
• No album title yet
• This will be Julian’s first DD album!
