“Venice Drowning” Translation January 15th, 2015
I’ve got a question about a song from “Liberty.” Listening to “Venice Drowning,” I heard some Italian words in it. They sound like “Entra in questo sogno di corruzione, affogamento di Venezia nell’emozione, vieni e nuota nel mio amore, vieni e nuota nella mia vita”. Am I right? Another question: who sang that part in the CD version? Thank you, Eléna
“We can answer part 1 for you. Sadly, no one can remember who sang that line in “Venice Drowning.” As a side note, the band have only ever played this song live ONCE.
The translation to what you’ve written is: “Come in this dream of corruption, drowning of Venice in the emotion, come and swim in my love, come and swim in my life.” “

Of course the next question is 'do the band think its the most pretentious piece of nonsense they have ever written?'

I like the layers of background sounds they mixed in with this track but apart from that it really drowns out the end of the album, along with Drowntown.

The sad thing is I was really enjoying Liberty up until this song. But the final two tracks are the worst finish to an album in Duran Duran history, just edging out the final two on Red Carpet Massacre.

Very strange I have always loved this song since I first heard it. I think the "holy beads of jism" lyric just ruined it for everyone!

Can't verify this but "Valery Taylor" had this to add on the Duranada FB page regarding the question:
"Was an italian fan that sing that part. She and others girls stay outside the studios and wait for the band for a long time so the guys let them enter inside and Elena, this is the name of the girl, sing the part in italian also if in an ungrammatical language..."

According to the Liberty linear notes, the "Italian girl" is Silvia. Other women on the album were Carol Kenyon, Tessa Niles and the "Dutch girl" is Claudia. Where does this Elena come in?

Tessa Niles is the backing vocalist. Carol and Claudia were just models for the Liberty photo and video shoots. I was surprised the band didn't stick with the backing vocalists from the Big Thing tour. Melanie Redmond and Jacqui Copland had some great chemistry with the band on those shows.

Hi everyone! I logged in just to inform you that, according to Duranasty website, the name of the Italian girl is Silvia Chironi. I confirm that the Italian words are a literal and inaccurate translation of "Enter this sublime corrosion, Venice drowning in emotion, come swim into my love, come swim into my life" The link to the article is www.duranasty.com/news_home/archived_news_november_2009.htm
