Dirty Vegas, the electronic band known for the 2002 hit song 'Day's Go By', has covered Duran Duran's 'Save a Prayer'.
IMHO its a pretty cool cover version. Holds true to the spirit and sound of the original while taking on its own, unique Dirty Vegas sound.

Yeah. I totally dig this cover version. A great song can stand up to any treatment... Save A Prayer is a great song.

A great song can stand up to any treatment... Save A Prayer is a great song. Totally agree with this statement, but this is one example of why I'm not a fan of electronic music. All I hear is the same thing over and over and it gives me a headache. The voice was great here but I could only listen to about 90 seconds before I turned it off. I just don't find a lot of creativity in electronic music. I've got 2 cds that were put out of Duran covers in electronic music and I think I listened to about a minute of each song. Buying them was my fault... I thought they'd be different. Which is why I don't listen to all of the remixes that come out all of the time. It used to be special to get a 12" single or a remix...now anyone can do it in their own home and it's lost it's magic. I'm just not a fan of blatant repetition made by a computer. I love a bass guitar, an electric and acoustic guitar, real drums played by a person and a piano or keyboards that add to the song. Now give me a cover where real instruments are used and I'll give it a listen. For example, I totally love Red's cover of OW. The first DD Tribute album is something I enjoyed. I didn't like all of the remakes but at least I gave it them a chance and listened to them all the way through. Plus it was a helluva lot better than this recent one put out by Manimal, in my opinion. Yeah...rant over.

I agree with a lot of what you just posted Mynick. The song is okay, but when you cover a classic track and don't deviate too much from the original vocal melody then you really have to do something stupendously craptacular to stuff it up.
Save A Prayer is a beautiful, pretty, song. Dirty Vegas simply recorded the track with electronic music instead of organic instruments and as a result it sounds pretty good, which for me to say about electronic music is a huge compliment.
It's the covers of Duran's music where the artists use the same lyrics, but totally turn their back on the melody and use their own melody, which generally sound terrible. As I mentioned it's hard to stuff up a cover version if the original song is strong in the first place. And they don't come much stronger than Save A Prayer.
The internet is amazing and I love it. But in some small way it has spoilt the "magic" in buying new Duran Duran remixes. If Dirty Vegas had released that song before the internet we'd probably be raving about it and saying what a cool cover version it was. But in this day and age, where anybody with a computer, the right software, and time to kill can make a decent Duran Duran cover, then songs like that are a dime a dozen.
And when you hear a cover version of a song that sounds amazing, and it's done by somebody who has only been playing around with music for a few months, then it makes you wonder why bands even bother paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to people with a name in the industry. A name doesn't guarantee sales, and there are plenty of fans who have released covers/remixes without receiving a cent, for the love of it, which are better than the uber-expensive official release.
