I mentioned this in another thread not related to music and music buyers, but it *really* makes a statement on the buying habits and power of the pre-teen dollar.
A song from the Disney Channel original movie, Jump In, is at #5 on iTunes top downloads of the week. Wow...I mean, WOW!
As I was waiting for the soundtrack to download (as a favor to my son), I took a look at some of the comments on the album...1069 of them. The biggest complaint was that one of the songs by Keke Palmer, which also had a Disney "video" to go with it...and which was played ad nauseum on the Disney Channel as a promo for the movie that premiered last week... was available as an album only download...not as an ala carte download.
Every other poster out of the 1069 was complaining about that fact. They didn't want to spend 9.99, but 99 cents, they could part with.
I'm not in the music industry, and I don't normally notice these things, but I found this eye-opening.

But... were these comments posted by pre-teens or by their parents, unwilling to shell out $9.99 because their kid just asked for this one specific song?

From the writing style/word choice on those particular comments, I would say they were written by the pre-teens. Lots of punctuation (!!!!) and a hearty, "THIS SUCKS!"
