I know I've posted this before, but 31 years ago, Duran Duran saved six people and three dog from burning up in a fire:
In Creston, Iowa, in the wee hours of the morning, our home burnt down.
I was the only one awake when I noticed smoke pouring out of the wall. I thought it had something to do with our wood-burning stove, but it was an electrical fire that claimed everything. I was waiting up to see Duran Duran's extended Wild Boys video on Night Flights, and the fire started right under where my brother Tom and I were curled up on the living room floor. I woke up my dad, stepmom, brother, and sisters. We got out of the house with our glasses, our pajamas, our animals, and a dog bed. We watched the whole house cave into a fiery pit in the basement from my neighbor's (my adopted grandma's) living room picture window. It was the coldest night that year.
Less than six months afterwards - on July 4 - I would flee, leave my family to go into foster care.
