What bothers me a bit about these ultimate makeover shows is how generic the women end up looking at the end... all these little carbon copy Barbie dolls. I wish society had a broader view over what is considered beautiful rather than these homogeneous clones these shows produce.

Yeah, some people love those shows and some can't bear it. I fall into the latter category. Plus, sometimes I look at these women and wonder what they are thinking. I'm not a fan of the way I look but I'll stay this way before I ever go under ANY knife...

I love those shows. I'm a medical show junkie. I think it's sad that so many people are doing it solely based on not liking what they look like as opposed to medical necesity. Not liking your looks comes from within yourself. If someone is doing it for that, they are searching for something that no knife is ever going to provide.
I've considered getting a boob job. I wonder if one would improve the pain I"m in on a daily basis. Other than that, there's no frosty way in hell I'd ever go under a knife. If there isn't a medical necesity to do it, then no way. I'm not that trusting. LOL
Besides, I'm no beauty queen, but if you don't like what I look like, then go away. Sounds like a personal problem to me. There's no room in my life for shallow people.

I can't watch these shows. Grosses me out. I understand having surgery because of something like a huge nose. I've known people who had problems breathing. They had rhinoplasty. Having plastic surgery done for vanity is another reason entirely. Years ago a college classmate had over $20,000 worth of plastic surgery. She had a boob job, eyebrow lift, liposuction (various areas), nose job, cheeck implants and other surgeries I can't remember. I though that was ridiculous. I'd rather spend that money on a home gym. If someone thinks I'm ugly that's their problem. I don't want to hang up with someone like that. Personality is more important than looks.

I helped a friend recoup from some plastic surgery and it was not fun. OUCH!!! Ewww, I have seen quite a bit on tv, & depending how graphic it is. If its for health reasons, I'll be for it. But if its "just" to try to look different. Ever see this one lady who spent several thousands of dollars to look like a cat, eyes were pulled back, she had her face pulled as well, she looked gross. I think I'd spend my hard earned money on something useful

Oh. I thought from the thread title this was another debate about whether or not Simon had gone under the knife, lol.
I have never watched any of these shows. And now from your descriptions I don't know if I ever will!!

I think plastic surgery is ok if you are overly concerned with a body part -- say, your nose. But it is ridiculous the lengths people will go to change themselves.
I can spot fake boobs a mile away. Facelifts are freakishly weird (speaking of, have you seen Kenny Rogers and Burt Reynolds lately?).
For some reason, I got sucked into watching 'Girls Next Door' last night on Bravo, the Playboy show. The 'girls' were making over a sister of one of the playmates. The girl was a completely normal girl, but they kept calling her 'frumpy.' She wasn't overweight AT ALL. So they took her for fake tanning, to get her hair extensions, and gave her some fake boob cutlets to put into her bra. When she came out, she looked just like they did -- slutty.
Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

I always thought that I would NEVER get plastic surgery. However, as time has started marching across my face, I now say, "Never say never."

I always thought that I would NEVER get plastic surgery. However, as time has started marching across my face, I now say, "Never say never." Carina...there's a BIG difference between having some injections and having MAJOR incisions on your face followed by having your skin pulled back and pinned in a different place. I've always thought that once my chin sagged and I got a nice waddle, I'd prolly have the fat sucked out under my chin. Then I realized that it takes an entire lift, so I've kinda reconsidered. I went to dinner last night with my former boss and she has had so many procedures done to her face it's ridiculous. I'm terrified of an invasive procedure on my face as a result. Again...a little botox or something like that in the lines on my forehead...no big deal. A KNIFE on my face....no way, jose.
