Duran Duran has a way to go if they want to gross what New Kids on the Block’s "The Total Package Tour" recently did in Georgia.
New Kids on the Block with special guests Paula Abdul and Boyz II Men performed at Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, Ga., July 14 in front of 9,770 fans (11,008 tickets were allotted). The show, which was also promoted by Live Nation, had $1,080,777 in gross sales, according to data previously compiled by Billboard.
The stop grossed $200,000 more than the Grammy Award-nominated singer and actress Ariana Grande’s recent stop at Philips Arena in Atlanta on April 12. She performed in front of 10,987 fans (11,285 tickets were allotted) and had $780,827 in gross sales.
When asked by Atlanta Business Chronicle how he viewed Atlanta as a market for pop music, Huey Lewis, the lead singer and harmonica player of the Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated Huey Lewis and the News, said Atlanta has always been a great music town.
“…and it’s a great town for everything culturally,” he noted. “It’s wonderful-cultural center. It’s the best town in the South. New Orleans and Atlanta — that’s where it is.”
