Starting Weird New Collections

I don't really collect anything in any organized fashion. I pick up stray stuff wherever I go, however.... things like, rubberbands, paperclips and pens. ;D I'm like a klepto for these things. Is this weird?

Wow, I thought I was the only one who still had Ramona and Rodney dolls. I wouldn't say I collect them though. I only have one of each. I collect stuffed pandas. Not sure how weird that is. I go to thrift stores looking for stuffed pandas. I also bid on Ebay for them. Most of my other collections are normal (Barbies, other dolls, cds, books, vinyl and dvds).

I collect Barbies, which not entirely weird.

A cheap thing to collect is matchbooks. Hubby and I started a few years ago when we picked up matchbooks from all the Vegas establishments. We keep them in a huge brandy glass.

Lavie - normally, I would see things like this as creepy, but I kinda like these.

I collect old knitting pattern magazines/books. sort of....I go through phases with them. It's mostly because of the photos on the outside.

Schmacko- do the eyes move on those clocks? That would make them creepy-taculous!!!!

Yep, the eyes tick back and forth with the pendulum - it's not creepy at all, really - it's kind of fast and comical.

I collect crystal. I used to hit alot of estate sales. Anything crystal and weird or unusal. I've got sooo much crystal crap I have no where to put it, at least no where that little hands can't get to it!

I also collect snow globes! I love those things! And glass decanters. I know I've got other stuff but I can't remember right now.

When I was up in West Virginia, I told Cathy's aunt that her mid-1940s owl clock was cool, and she just gave it to me. She insisted on giving me this Japanese clock (which I think belonged to her husband's previous wife...)

So, I start reading about these little Mi-Ken clocks. Now, in Japan, they did all the 1930s-1960s Disney clocks - which I am not interested in. But they also did others, which are kind of hard to get a hold of now.

So, I was chatting with someone (who wished to remain nameless) from the duranduran.co.uk Java chat board, and she sent me a MINT Scottish Terrier one for Christmas FREE (cuz I'd burnt her some rare Tori Amos stuff I had). She just had it sitting around, and she'd known about the owl, so...she sent it to me... It's in better condition than this one - I mean, this woman was very generous, because I told her they are kind of rare, and she GAVE it to me! (If you're reading this; thank you again!):



So, now, I have two, which is basically the start of a collection, right? And they're filling a neat space in my kitchen. And they're an odd thing to collect.

BTW, they both work beautifully.

So, my aunt Catherine (my godmother) every year tries to buy me expensive stuff for Christmas. She lost her first husband to cancer, and remarried a very wealthy man. She also feels guilty she didn't know how bad my home life was (when I was a young teen) and come rescue me - so now she tries to make up for it with expensive birthday and Christmas gifts which she has me pick out. This year, I asked for dark TV trays, which she said she'd get but they weren't expensive enough.

So I found this on EBay and made her also buy this for me:



It's coming this week.

And then I search EBay and found this one, but it's sort of in sad shape, so I am debating if I want it or not. It has some damage and it's missing it's key and pendulum (which may be easy to come by). The damage is the part that I'm not sure I want. Gotta have standards, right? But it is inexpensive...



And then I found this one on EBay - and NO shitTING - they want $75 for it!!!! People, these are only 8 inches high! Jesus! No way! I'll wait for a cheaper one! I mean, this one is cool, but it ain't 75 bucks worth of cool!!!

Seriously, give us a history like mine. I want to see the strange, obscure shit we DuranTURD.coms collect!!!

here in San Fran, there is a store where they sell wall clocks with different animals, there is one which maybe some have seen, its a black cat, his eyes & tails move left to right. It used to scare the crapola outta me when I was a kid

I collect plastic bags. It's not 'serious collecting', but I've always hated throwing them away because of environmental reasons, so I started to keep the nice heavier ones (especially the ones I got when travelling abroad) and re-use them.

I think it's weird, but I was sort of relieved when I found out that I'm not the only one, apparently Nick collects them too. Maybe we could swap... *lol*

I have another strange collection. I collect newspaper supplements. Those sections that are printed for a special reason. I have several from when Walter Payton and Princess Diana died. I have several that have to do with a sports event. I even have a few from when JFK was killed. I inherited the JFK papers from my paternal grandparents.
