My hubby, a personal banker, said your bank shoulg have told you that the account needed closed, a new one opened, and a fraud alert/report sent in to the credit bureaus. That you're getting a refund is great, but he said the chances of someone having memorized or written down your number is really good, and it may have even been sold to others. If you can actually prove fraud, and not accidental debiting of your account, you can file charges against the company too. Remember, your check card is tied to your checking account, and hubby says getting that checking account number isn't too hard once you have the check card number with the 3 digit code on the back. Talk IN PERSON to someone at your bank. If they're unwilling to file the fraud report for you, and close the account and open a new one, you need to change banks. The only thing is, I don't think I'd be able to file charges against the company. The "theif" ordered services from this company on-line, so I'm not sure the company knew or could tell it was a fraud charge.
Ironically...........the company that this person purchased services from is called "Net Detective". I found out (when I called them)that they're a service you can use to get information about people from!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar situation. I closed my account and filed a police report. The only good thing that came out of it was the bank did not charge me for the overdrawn balance that happened due to the fraud.
