I just found that I have 2 fraudulant charges to my bank account. Someone, somehow got my Visa checkcard number plus the 3 digit code on the back and made 2 purchases using my card. I already called my bank and cancelled the card. I was also thinking about closing my account and opening a new one. I'm kind of freaked out, this hasn't happened to me before. Would you close your account and get a new one or do you think cancelling my card is enough?? I feel SO violated!!

I'd close my account just to be safe. I am not really sure what you should do. Has the bank given you any ideas?

I would find out what the bank suggests.

I would get assurances from the bank that by them issuing you a new card, this won't be able to happen again. I hope they credited your account?

Just close the account. start fresh., just let the remaining outstanding check clear, dont put anymore $$ in your account.

Did you learn that through email ? I received an email saying that someone bought something using my bank card but it turned out that was a fraud email trying to get my account number. It looked as if it came from my bank. But the bank associates said they never sent such an email and there was no charge to my card, and so I did nothing. I just ignored the email. But yeah, the fraud emails are annoying

When I checked my account on-line, I found the fraudulant charges from a company I never heard of. Luckily, the company is going to credit my account for the charges.

I'm overly paranoid when it comes to stuff like that, so yeah, I'd close the account.

My hubby, a personal banker, said your bank shoulg have told you that the account needed closed, a new one opened, and a fraud alert/report sent in to the credit bureaus. That you're getting a refund is great, but he said the chances of someone having memorized or written down your number is really good, and it may have even been sold to others. If you can actually prove fraud, and not accidental debiting of your account, you can file charges against the company too. Remember, your check card is tied to your checking account, and hubby says getting that checking account number isn't too hard once you have the check card number with the 3 digit code on the back.
Talk IN PERSON to someone at your bank. If they're unwilling to file the fraud report for you, and close the account and open a new one, you need to change banks. It's their job to watch out for your best interest.
Good luck! Heather
