Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had a preference over which format that they listen to. I tend to take it on a per era basis due to the mastering process.
I personally prefer vinyl (especially from the 81 - 84) period) due to it sounding more natural IMHO. The early 80s compact disc just sounded a tad bit tinny and with no bottom end. Of course as digital mastering improved towards the later 80's, I'd rather listen to Notorious, Big Thing, Liberty, TWA, Medazzaland, and PT in cd format. When the loud wars started around early 2000's, I found myself preferring vinyl again due to quieter mastering thus allowing me to hear more details in the music.
As for the remasters, I am not keen whatsoever.
I would love to hear from others as to what format they prefer and why.

Started off only listening to them in vinyl.
But in the 90's, switched over to CDs. Then in the 00's and beyond, digital only.
Now, I look for vinyl, cassette only mixes, etc, so I listen to them in that format and digitize the tracks.

I have digitized my entire collection making it convenient for me to play anything at my disposal. The only albums that I have from cd source is from Notorious to Pop Trash. After 2000, starting with 'Astronaut', the cd was apparently mastered too loud, so I purchased the vinyl to compare. Same impression with AYNIN and Paper Gods cd. From my understanding, the 3 vinyl versions had a different mastering process from the cd counterpart.
Anyways, I now have my entire collection in FLAC format.

As my country currency started to fell apart, it became more difficult for me to buy everything as before, so, i don't have the vinyls of the last two albums, just CDs. Paper God sound too compressed, and too loud too. AYNIS too, but to a less extent i think.

It lacks warmth and charisma. I wished DD would take note of what the fans say - especially the critical fans who aren’t interested in what their backsides look like. I’m talking about the fans who listen to every single background effect and go deeper. Not the ‘we love you Roger and we’ll enjoy whatever you play!!’ brigade. Lol I also love AYNIN but Poptrash was the last album that was nearly close to excellent.

Is a shame, cos somewhere under all that messy productions, there are some good/great compositions. The most annoying thing in Paper Gods for me is the drums treatment. I've also noticed the in the last 3 albums that Simon's voice is way over processed, it sounds to harsh and edgy, too much middle range.

Yeah, I can hear that when he’s singing ‘What are the Chances?’ Lovely song but it’s got a whine to it. Can’t listen to it anymore. Lol I need something positive to talk about!! Haha

I buy the physical product to support the artists, so that’s why I don’t stream. I prefer CD, but between my husband and I, we own nearly everything Duran on vinyl, too. I guess I’d prefer the sound of vinyl, but it’s not always convenient to flip the record when I’m working or he’s cooking or whatever, and I listen to a lot of music in the car, so CDs are still my preference.
