Van Halen, Roth to announce tour next week
08/07/2007 Reuters Jonathan Cohen
Van Halen will announce a 50-date American reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth during a news conference in Hollywood next week, sources said.
The arena trek will begin in early October.
Roth, who split from the rock group in the mid-1980s in hopes of solo stardom, will reunite with co-founders Eddie Van Halen on guitar and brother Alex Van Halen on drums. Eddie's teenage son Wolfgang will sub for Michael Anthony on bass. A proposed summer amphitheater tour by the group never got off the ground, with Eddie Van Halen entering a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March.
In the months since, the guitarist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.
Van Halen last toured in 2004, with Roth's replacement, vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Will this actually happen, they have been trying to re-form for yrs. Not a major Van Halen fan, but its good to see them back.

....yeah, I have to wonder too. I heard that Michael Anthony was outed in favour of Wolfgang. Something to do with 'tensions' between Michael and Eddie....?

I would go see 'em. Definitley more of a Roth fan over Hagar (for that band) even though when I met DLR back in the 80's he certainly didn't have all the oars in the water!!! But I think that may be part of what makes him a good frontman.....I won't say 'great' as Freddie Mercury still holds that title as far as I'm concerned!

....Roth is a great frontman (very flamboyant), but I appreciate Hagar's vocal more.

I also have doubts....*if* they ever actually do it, they should call the it the 'boy who cried wolf' tour.....
I also don't know how I feel about Anthony being bumped for Wolfie. Is this really a way for Eddie to launch his kid's career? Hmm....
that said, I will totally be there *if* it happens
