I can’t see myself bothering to vote for anyone this year. Maybe Jane’s Addiction. Sad.

Attended my first Simple Minds gig last night on their Global Tour 2024 Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Incredible stuff, I/we got Once Upon A Time and King Is White, 2 tracks that I’d never thought I’d ever hear them play considering the wealth of material SM have to choose from Jim’s voice was deep n strong, great seeing Sarah Brown on vocals and Charlie is one incredible guitarist, guy hasn’t changed in 40+ yrs And Drummer Charisse packs one hell of drum thud n punch
Set list was
* So May We Start - intro Sparks track
* Waterfront
* I Travel
* Love Song
* King Is White and in the Crowd
* Vision Thing
* Once Upon a Time
* Glittering Prize
* Promised You a Miracle
* New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)
* Drums (solo)
* Belfast Child
* She's a River
* Someone Somewhere in Summertime
* Don't You (Forget About Me)
* Encore:
* Amazing Grace
* Alive and Kicking
* Sanctify Yourself
* The Jean Genie (outro Bowie track)
Love the fact that all songs were played in their entirety, doing justice to the song for the songs sake, rather than medley type played tracks
Belfast Child was a real moment
Set list made me think of DDs, heavy on the 80s and I get why that is, otherwise most people would not be happy, the difference being where DD will do 4 or 5 from the most recent LP, SM played only one VT
Similar to DD approx 17 tracks played & the band was tight Got 5 from New Gold Dream, no complaints there
At one stage Jim asked a young audience member “who are you here with?’ the youth replied, “my dad”, Jim paused and jokingly said “you’re lucky we’re not DD or Spandau Ballet or etc etc and listed several other acts who had major success in the 80s
I thought that was funny & lucky for Jim he said it in a joke type manner otherwise I woulda climbed on stage and bopped him 😂
If I missed anything it would have been All The Things She Said & Book Of Brilliant Things but that woulda been asking for blood 🩸
they're playing the Gold Coast on Sunday and I’ll be there for the week, tempted to attend that gig too however I believe it’s sold out
Impressive Stuff
9/10

This current tour isn't branded as being for the latest album, which is a pity as they never really toured it - which I think was down to it coming out just after their 40 Years tour. In the previous "latest album" tour, which was for Walk Between Worlds in 2018 the set list was a bit more in line with DD in having a lot of stuff from the latest album. The drummer, Cherisse Osei, is a fantastic find for Simple Minds.

Getting King is White is a definitely bonus, it’s not in the set list that often though the recent NGD live album has probably brought it to the forefront of their minds

Glad you had a great time. I never saw them in the 80's, but have seen them 3 times over the last 20 years or so, will be seeing them this Summer on their UK tour. They are a great live band.
