Ok folks
I’ve no idea how long this will last but we’ve a green light from the mods to discuss anything not related to DD in my very own section!! Hahaha!!!! My ribs are hurting here. I convey my thanks to Mark for this fabulous accolade. I am indeed humbled!
I’d prefer 80’s, but anything goes!! 🤣

The Beloved.
Skinburn, you mentioned that you picked up The Beloved's Happiness reissue on vinyl this summer. This was a key album of my youth and I loved the euphoric escapism of it, so was really pleased when it was reissued this year as my only copy was on cassette until then. I also picked up the expanded edition digitally. For me, Happiness was the pinnacle of their career creatively, although the follow up Conscience was the bigger commercial success. I wasn't so keen at the time as my appreciation for The Beloved came from their original four piece New Order-infused early incarnation - so the band morphing into Marsh and Mrs Marsh for Conscience was a step too far for me. With the benefit of hindsight I think I was unfair in that opinion.
Did you go into much of their other material?

I found the early 90’s a recovery period from the late 80’s and I found myself investigating the Manchester scene (Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets etal), in addition to smaller acts like Charles and Eddie and others that I can’t think of right now - BUT The Beloved were very much on my radar. You’re right about Conscience being the catapult for the band. I recently read they were a 4 or 5 piece outfit and began their career in the mid to late 80’s as a ‘traditional’ band, finding fame pretty late on, reducing to just the two of them and moving to synths. Yes, I managed to purchase a signed copy of the Happiness vinyl! So looking forward to Conscience - they have to do something! Thankyou.

I've got The Beloved's "debut" album Where It Is on vinyl, which I bought in the late 80s - although it's technically a compilation of early singles rather than a traditional album, and you can tell that from the flow (or relative lack thereof) in the album, although individually many of the songs are great. That was them as a four piece.
That was reissued this year too, but unfortunately not on vinyl, but the expanded CD with a load of extras I hadn't heard (or hadn't heard in ages) was worth the purchase.
There was an album that was shelved between Where It Is and Happiness, and Marsh did have it for free download on The Beloved website about 15 years back. Unfortunately my download from that fell foul of a PC failure from back in the day when I didn't have the foresight to back up stuff.
Between Happiness and Conscience there was a rather fine remix album, Blissed Out, largely of Happiness tracks that used to get heavy rotation on my cassette Walkman. Cassette copy was bought in that case as it had the most tracks.

I was amazed that nobody ‘fell out’ (if you know what I mean?) - mind you I bet there were several takes of that shoot! Lol

Obviously not my copy (I'm too comfy on the couch), but this is a vinyl boxset I have rather enjoyed in recent years - Transvision Vamp's three albums on coloured vinyl: wonderful power pop with a punky dusting. And Wendy James was always a beauty...

Yeah I got Rejuvenation Colour vinyl and the CD set as there are some excellent mixes on it. Here’s my ‘Happiness’ - unopened as yet.
