Number 1 in Germany and Ireland apparently too with plenty more countries’ charts to roll in yet. Top 3 Australia. U2 are still a massive band. Yep and same with DM they will probably hit number 1 for mediocrity...seriously just a cash grab to redo these songs! You don't mess with perfection on these U2 songs! Really lazy IMO.... I reckon if this new DD project is an album it could well go to number 1 in the UK, if they release it before the Christmas rush, doesn’t clash with Taylor etc and the first single has Andy on it and is really good! A lot of ifs, but I think they can pull it off!!!

It feels like a very cohesive album - and builds to some of their best material in a loooooooong time on the second half. Before We Drown, Never Let Me Go and People Are Good are such gems. Martin’s Soul With Me is his best sung track since Home I reckon. Really impressed - three of their previous five albums have been more miss than hit for me so this is a big treat and I can’t wait to listen more. Harold

Bring back Alan Wilder!!!! And increase the bpm’s by 20!!!
It’s a solid album, but a long shot from Mode’s finest stuff.

Ghosts again is the best song and I personally don't think this album flows! Wilder was a genius! I don't get why Dave has such a hard time coming up with his own lyrics? He's the lead singer? I wasn't wowed but still better than there last few albums...I can't believe DM has never had a #1 single in the US or the UK?

Stayed in tonight with a glass of vino or two 🍷and listened to Memento Mori. A very strong album IMO - can't wait to see some of these songs performed live at Twickenham. Love People Are Good (could they get any more overtly Kraftwerk😀) and Caroline's Monkey is sublimely dark!

I had my first listen of Memento Mori yesterday in the car on the way to work. Never the best way to hear an album but it’s good, better than Spirit and definitely better than Sounds Of The Universe and Delta Machine, but not as good as Playing The Angel. A lot of the songs are slow and lack melody but are still better than their past efforts of the past 14 years. Some songs are very unDepeche-like. Caroline’s Monkey sounds more like a Dave solo effort yet it’s still good. People Are Good is also another favourite.

I enjoyed the album but it still feels somewhat lacking lyrically. In terms of recent releases I would rate it higher than Exciter and Spirit. Feels inferior to SotU, Delta & Angel for me. Ghosts Again, Before We Drown & Speak to Me are amazing tracks but the rest somewhat chugs along in a similar fashion to Spirit. Even the more average tracks sound very interesting as instrumentals but I'm just not feeling the melody or lyrics match up right.
I'm not going to completely write it off though. Every Depeche album in the last 20 years has grown on me over time (to some degree). My favourite tracks from each respective album is always changing so I'm sure this album will be no different.
Still pleased with this effort from them. I hope we get to enjoy another album from them.

Ok, so I put the CD on at home on my sound system (Cambridge Audio AXR100, AXC35 cd player and Mission speakers). It’s sounds great. In fact I like it a lot more than when I first listened to it in my car. I still stand by my comments about a few songs sounding very un-Depeche-like but we must bear in mind that a lot of it was co-written with Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs and therefore there’s a bit of a change in the dynamic. Martin Gore usually writes alone, so it’s normal that the sound and lyrics are different. There are however elements of early DM. Wagging Tongues (Martin and Dave co wrote this. Their first) sounds like something off of Some Great Reward or even Speak and Spell. There’s a nod to Violator in one song, which I cannot remember the name of, where they chant ”Sometimes” as in the Violator track “Clean”. So yeah, it’s better than my first impression. It’s every well recorded as well, so I will dip into the vinyl if the price comes down (shocking prices). My wife likes it as well, which has surprised me. She’s never really been a fan.
