duran duran - late bar(room 7609)
------------------------------------
late bar, is one of those rare and amazing duran duran b-sides.
back then, some of these songs could have easily made it onto
the album, but were put on a bside.
in this case - planet earth, their first single.
this was also one of their first songs. it was on early demos,
and sounded very finished, with all the guitar and synth parts.
---------
to me, this is a very complete, and concise song, there's
nothing in it that didn't need to be. it flows very well.
simons voice is dark and moody, and the guitar work is
crunchy and rockish. but it has the classic duran duran
sound to it. the synths chords work very well, and the
drumming is very upbeat. the bass is outstanding, as
always.
they lyrics are obtuse, strange, and there are also
some spoken lyrics, and sounds going on. i love the
chorusing, and the li-la-li background vocals too.
its got a very catchy beat to it.
---------
there was never a remix of it, even though its a very short song.
when played live, they made it kind of punkish, and sped up,
or recreated it to sound the same.
i've been checking youtube, and other peoples duran fanmixes
for years, as i have loved this song from the first time i heard
it on the 12 inch back in the 80s. the closest i saw, were just
a couple of chopped up cut and paste versions, that didn't really
add anything.
even now there still aren't ANY remixes of this, just a few fan
videos, from what i found.
the song is very tight, every part fits together well, without
too much repetition, except the chorus, and the verses flow
together, and thats it a 3 min song.
so, i'm happy to present my version of it.
you can't really improve on a classic. but i'm happy i was
able to extend some parts. also put in some different drum
breaks and beats too, using only the original parts for it.
hope you enjoy it, leave any thoughts or comments on it:
