I like the song falling down. Yet there were many other choices for first single that would have been better. Standing here looking back to that time, I'm tempted to ponder whether the release of that song/video was actually sabotage. Did they choose it, or the studio?

I like the song falling down. Yet there were many other choices for first single that would have been better. Standing here looking back to that time, I'm tempted to ponder whether the release of that song/video was actually sabotage. Did they choose it, or the studio? I don't mind Falling Down either. Sure the chorus is a little whiney and boring, but that pre-chorus in particular, and guitar ending, is beautiful. I describe Falling Down as AOWC ("Another Ordinary World Casualty"). Timberlake even said that he was trying to create a 2000's Ordinary World when he produced it, which didn't do the song any favours. Duran tried to emulate the beautiful ballad a number of times after OW. They had fortune with a medium-slow tempo song in Come Undone, but Too Much Information (a really great rock track) disappeared without a trace. As a result - from that time on - the poignant ballad became Duran's and the record company's "go-to", hoping to reclaim that lightning in a bottle from 1992. Needless to say - anybody who actively seeks lightning in a bottle - won't find it. It is something you accidentally trip over, not use Google maps for. Since Ordinary World, we had releases like Perfect Day, Out Of My Mind, Someone Else Not Me, What Happens Tomorrow, Falling Down, and What Are The Chances. One from each album.
Compare that to the 80s, where Duran barely released a ballad. Perhaps Save A Prayer, and Do You Believe In Shame, are the only exceptions to that rule? Two ballads from five original studio albums. So that's why I think the band and record company always err on the side of the ballad. It doesn't seem right to see a 40-year old, 80s band top the charts with a "dance banger". It won't happen. Waste of time. For some people - having a comfortable Duran Duran ballad, the sort of mature song appropriate for a now mature band, is a little more palatable*. * Note: Only a LITTLE more palatable. And that ballad isn't going to chart either.

I always thought the title track for RCM never got enough credit. f___ing love that tune - so gritty and so danceable. Nite runner is ok but not one of my faves of the album Yeah, it grew on me. When I first heard it, I thought the chorus was horrendous. It just sounded like it had no tune, and Simon was shouting rather than singing. But after a while, it did become a lot more enjoyable, even considering the absolutely awful and boring rhythm section. There are a few albums that Duran Duran should retcon and re-record. Preferably AFTER the synths have been removed from John Taylor's corner of the studio, and his guitar turned up. Red Carpet Massacre is one such album. Under those conditions, the title track from RCM could be stellar!

Many think this song is boring and plain.. I think the opposite .. it’s a very calm and relaxing song. This song had to be one of the biggest played at grocery stores and shopping malls followed by come undone and Hltw! This song was always being played when I was out shopping ! It wasn’t a hit and should have been! Great video and Dom was actually in it too !
This extended guitar 🎸 version was great and I really love it ! Last two minutes plus stellar!!
It was at this time when I thought Duran should have made Dom a full time member.. he brings this great work and writing to the band! His work on Mediterranea and many songs on AYNIN also sealed my belief that Dom was a great addition to the band and when used properly is just as good as Andy and Warren!!!
Enjoy!!!

There we go! Falling down was a grocery store smash!! Don't keep that quiet - shout it to the rooftops :
"Duran Duran have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide (although a gentlemen known only as "Andre" believes it could be up to 20 times more than that), have a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and have appeared in thousands of grocery stores everywhere whilst people were panic buying milk and toilet paper. Their new album, Future Past, comes out on October 22".
Should sell like hotcakes now.

FD is the only slightly bearable track on RCM and the only song I listen to once every few years from that album.

Nope 100 Million sounds right! FD is a grocery store smash! One must be relaxed when they shop! And this song does it! 1000 percent! Works for me Coolbarn....when you are done make sure you check Cure and Depeche Modes record sales too! lol Duran Duran (named after a character in Roger Vadim's sci-fi classic, Barbarella) is an electronic pop rock band that was part of the New Wave movement of the 80s and 90s. Created by Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass) in Birmingham, England in 1978, it later add took in Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar), and Simon Le Bon (lead vocals). The band has sold more than 100 million records over their more than 40 years of existence, making them one of the best-selling groups in history. Their songs are often vivid, hook-laden pieces dance pop that have fared well on the radio, but what many remember best about Duran Duran is their iconic music videos. Though many of the videos were tongue-in-cheek, the band has never quite escaped the glamorous and decadent 'jet set' image that their early videos projected. Their flashy outfits and strident, art rock influenced music showed an immense debt to 70s English glam artists such as David Bowie and Roxy Music, yet the band grasped a sense of their own identity and became one of the keystones of the new romantic movement.
