Do the math.
If you pay $200 a night at a nicer hotel that just gives you two beds and a bath, with a bar in which they charge you exorbitant prices for a can of cola, you have to pay for activities (actually leaving the hotel) and food (no private chef), $20K for a house with amenities is really not that bad.
When we went to Italy in 2004, our roundtrip airfare alone (for six people) cost nearly $6K.
*edited to match the article; the point is that at a cheap business traveler hotel, you're still gonna pay $3K a month.
