Oh dear. It been coming for a while as Smith has said it’s no longer easy for him to write songs. What’s happened with Gallup makes you wonder. They are/were best friends.

Oh no,that is sad. Early Cure were a real favourite of mine. Makes me appreciate DD's longevity even more. I believe that Nick was very much into them..there's that video of Bestival where he's chatting away with Robert.

I'm sure Robert Smith will find a replacement and continue.

This is very sad. I'd say it's hard to stay in a band that hasn't released new material in 13 years and still feel motivated. He said in twitter he was sick of betrayals. Just out of curiosity, I was lurking at a Cure forum for more information, but the fans are as confused as anyone. Hope we can know the truth some day.
I'll always love his bassline from Fascination Street. If the band is indeed reaching its end, I hope he returns for one last time.

I don’t know enough about the Cure, but isn’t Smith the only consistent member since their inception?

I'm sure Robert Smith will find a replacement and continue. But if you read article it said Smith was getting tired... and was ready to pack it in..we shall see!

Just like the band The Sisters of Mercy...the leader Andrew Eldritch is too lazy to do LPs...just like Robert Smith...every members of the band are tired of promises...it’s not a surprise.

... Smith recently said he believes that The Cure’s next album will be their last. He said that in 1989 too!
