I love hearing stories like that when all I hear most of the time is bad news.

My ex husband always stopped to help any one with car trouble, I remember many many times him jumping out of the car to help some one push their car to the side of the road, change a tire. Driving an elderly person to get a new tire or what ever they needed. He never excepted money when he was offered.
Years ago I was at the local 7-11 (a convience store) got the girls slurpees and treats my self a drink. I got to the counter and found out my debit card wasnt working. I told the girls we needed to put our things back, my oldest said "mommy we already drank some of the slurpee are we going to be stealing now" this older guy behind us started to laugh he asked the cashier how much it was and he ended up paying. I first told him no it was okay that I was going to go to the bank and get the money. He said "mam I cant let your little girl think she was stealing a few sips of the drink". I told him thank you the girls said thank you. He then said just help some one when you can.
We have helped many people since that day.

Do you know what the best part of random acts of kindness?
It is better to give them then receive them!
I never miss an opportunity when it arises. I know this may sound a bit "Pollyana", but this world is so full of negativity... It just makes me feel good to help strangers, or even friends, when I can.
Here's one of the best ones that has ever happened to me.
My Husband went to Brasil on vacation before me. (He gets a month off and I used to get only 2 weeks off) Anyway, he happened to leave in January, and it was one of the coldest on record. My car is a diesel, and one morning it wouldn't start. My hubby's best friend came over to help (I had no one else to call, because no one in my family would help), and he got it started. After that, he would come by every morning to start my car, and he and his girlfriend invited me over for dinner every evening so I wouldn't feel lonely. I love those two!

this is great.
Iam calamity jane when it comes to doing nice things. MY experiences fall under this cliche:"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
I tried to help a lady out last week with her cars headlamp. I was struggling a bit because it's a tight space. (there was a clip that was giving me a problem) She got nervous and dismissed me. I felt bad because I couldn't finish the job. I almost had it, but she wouldn't wait one more minute.
I guess it was her problem but I still feel bad.

I try to practice random acts of kindness every day. It could be as small as holding a door open for someone, or as big as paying for a special needs childs' school tuition. (I did the latter recently for my son's classmate. Anonymously. The family needed financial help.) It makes me feel good and makes up for the not-so-good things I can do once in awhile. It's that karma thing - it does feel good doing for others. And it helps me deal with some of the jerks I encounter too.

RIP Larry Stewart. Thanks for sharing your stories everyone. This has been one of those rare threads where I read every single post.

When I was 13 I was going through alot of things at home, so I decided to 'run away'. I packed my stuff and headed out, without any money or anything... about 2 or 3 blocks away from my house a business man saw me all sad n carrying my bags and asked me what I was doing. I told him & he said "Well how much money do you have?" to which I replied I had nothing. He opened up his wallet while explaining that he'd run away once too as a kid, and that I'd need this.. and handed me $50. I was shocked and didnt know what to say, but he smiled and told me to be careful.. and walked away while I tried to tell him thank you.
To this day Ive always tried to be that kind to anyone Ive ever come across who asks me for money.
