Thanks for the heads up. No major revelations for this last one - listening to the coat demos and very little changed post Bob and Anthony working on this one. I did find myself disagreeing with one observation- they said something like, “The song is an album track, never intended to be a single.” I can’t speak to the band’s intentions, but I absolutely think BBG could have been a single. It’s definitely upbeat & catchy, it’s also one of the best tracks on Medazzaland IMO…and really, what other songs were potential singles? Certainly nothing from tracks 6-12, except Michael, I guess? And also, look at the song’s placement- it’s freaking track 2. You don’t put “album tracks” in that position on the album. Not saying that BBG would have been a hit, just saying it absolutely had the potential to be a single, unlike something like Be My Icon or So Long Suicide. While I’m on a roll, 2 more head scratchers from this episode: -Anthony & Bob don’t know how Warren ended up in Duran? 😂🤣😂 -The discussion over the lyrics…the song seems to be about getting older and feeling like an out of place alien as a result. Bob claims DD fans think it’s about an alt reality, then he smugly assured us that it wasn’t…and then they gave their theory, which made no sense. I love the insights into this album but stuff like that drives me crazy…

Yeah - and I myself was getting tired of their humblebrag "We love our dream job" asides... It seems to me St John especially likes to blow his own "look who I've worked with and how I've consequently made a difference in the world at large" trumpet in that oldschool-rockist-boomerly way, whereas Resta sounds like a way humbler guy. They certainly blew out quite a few good minutes out of the skimpy episode time on this congratulating-themselves nonsense alone. That said - I'm obviously grateful for, and have enjoyed quite a bit, all the insights they've decided to offer us on one of my absolute favs from the DD catalogue.
My obvious-shoulda-been singles from Medazzaland are "Big Bang Generation" and "Be My Icon". The former gives me serious "Reflex" Vibes, whereas the latter would've totally been 1997 single material, à la Depeche's Ultra singles. Pity! I think both the proposed "WDYTYA" single and "SLS" were already a bit over the hill then for their grunge sound.

I do love Be My Icon - that & BBG & MS are my favorites- I think it would need a radio edit though, it feels like it takes way too long in the intro…but yes great comparison with Ultra / DM!

Their only crime was turning JT's bass down too low in the mix!
He did say some nice things about Warren's musicianship. Seems a little distance from the other episodes gave him a fresh perspective somewhat.

BBG was listed on the hype sticker for the cd/cassette so it was definitely earmarked for a single, along with WDYTYA.
BMI is probably my fav track on the album but never thought of it for a single. Hmm. Might have needed a remix. It's a bit dirge-y. Live it was great. They made it into an industrial behemoth.

I still think it's completely odd that they would set out to do this podcast with great fanfare and then "forget" to do one of the key tracks. Still - this was one of great treats for fans in some time.

I would like to hear the “bonus episode” on Ball & Chain / PL You / Sinner or Saint because they seem to hate those tracks 🤣😂

It was my letter that Anthony read on the Big Bang Generation episode of the podcast. Very special to hear him read it. I don't post here often, but those who know me know how special this record is to me - now perhaps you know even more. My Dad would have been over the moon for the 25th anniversary vinyl. Miss him every day.
