This is such sad news. This is the first time someone from my inner circle of favourite artists has died (not counting Ian Curtis as I got into Joy Division posthumously). Sure Michael Hutchence, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Prince, George Michael etc cut close, but this really is a deep cut into my musical psyche.
Like a lot of other DD fans, I love Depeche Mode too. I got into them slightly late, having been given a cassette of 101 not long after it was released, but they quickly became an obsession and I had to buy up all their albums, and I've remained a firm fan ever since.
Music For The Masses and Violator are in my Top Ten favourite albums of all time, and will be forever.
I was upset about Prince and Bowie - but this has cut deep. I am crest fallen. This will have repercussions for a long time. I’m pretty certain DM have finished a new album. But its way too soon to speculate. I need time to adjust. Can’t believe it.
Great explanation, Skinburn. Crestfallen. It's how I'm feeling right now.
I want to write some of my thoughts about how much of an influence Depeche mode have been for me, something about the pleasure they have given to me, the music, the videos, the image, something to thank Fletch and Depeche mode for everything, but I can't quite put all my feelings into words at the moment.
Maybe I'll just heed lyrics from one of my favourite songs, and simply Enjoy the Silence instead...
So much good material, that I want to listen to again, in light of this sad news, but I don't know where to start....

This has really knocked me for six. Completed gutted to hear this . Used to see Fletch in our local, The Salt House in St John's Wood. Depeche Mode have always given me some of my best live music experiences and I know Fletch had previously been integral to keeping the band together. So, so sad 😢

This is just depressing. I’m lost for words.

And with John getting diabetes from Covid and Simon drinking too much these days and not in shape it’s always better at their age to stay in shape and eat right .. Wait what? Did Simon confirm he is drinking too much or is this one of your assumed truths again? 🤷🏼♂️

Bizarre, duran duran's official Facebook page had a large black and white picture up of Fletch, simply saying RIP Fletch.
It was literally up for 1 minute then disappeared. It was probably put up by Katy and potentially taken down as one of the band members might do a tribute (jt is v friendly with Dave) think the pic was posted just before or after they went on stage in Norway.

I was surprised they didn't have anything up as yet, but I did think it was perhaps due to them playing last night.

Horrible news. DM have been “my other band” for the past 35 years. One of my first gigs and they still feature heavily on my playlist when I’m out and about. Really sad and how terrible for his family and friends. Fletch has been Martin Gore’s best mate and a crutch to lean on for so long. I can’t imagine what he’s going through. Alison Moyet was his classmate at school and she can’t compute what’s happened. Someone on another forum mentioned that he was photographed a few weeks ago with some fans and appeared to be healthy, so it appears to have been sudden.
Last night I drove home and cranked up World In My Eyes really loud. It was a favourite of his.

Did Simon confirm he is drinking too much or is this one of your assumed truths again? 🤷🏼♂️ Every event I see him with family and friends he constantly has a drink in his hand.. go see when he was on island on holiday with family and got up to sing HLTW with resident guitar player .. he was sloshed.. When he was in LA for DD promo work he constantly had a drink in his hand …every single social event.. To each his own, but gaining weight from drinking is like the # 1 cause of gaining weight..not to mention that booze all the time is not great for the heart or liver…it’s an observation.. video doesn’t lie…key is moderation…Simon cuts the booze he will easily control his weight .. not brain science.. DD on holiday or any Rockstar is not like us going on holiday a few times a year.. they are always on holiday.. Remember too.. a rockstars life is not like the avg person.. being in their 60’s is like being in the avg person’s 80’s .. hence why many rockstars pass in their early 60’s.. I loved it when Simon worked out and had a trainer .. I doubt he is doing that these days…he looked and sounded great during the Astronaut tour… opposite spectrum is Vince Neil.. my money is that Motley will not finish the upcoming summer stadium tour..
