Also, be aware that this thread was started about a musician who has recently passed away. A little respect please

I think it's fair to say many DD fans are hurting over Fletch's passing as there is quite an overlap between the fanbases. So many of us have DM as our "other" band.
He's of exactly the same generation as DD, and very much of that same scene that grew up with Bowie/Roxy and new electronics in music that got the confidence to form bands in the aftermath of punk. That he's passed his close to home - suddenly your heroes are no longer exempt from the worst. It's been creeping closer with deaths like George Michael and Mark Hollis, and now it's at the centre of your musical world.
I'm driving down to England tomorrow. My wife is going to have to expect eight hours of Depeche Mode!

So? I am allowed to respond to whatever comments I feel like. There is no proof! Your photos and videos aren’t proof. In fact, the video of Simon shows that he’s most likely NOT drunk. 🙄 You cannot make the case that his weight gain is due to alcohol. Simon said he baked sourdough bread during the pandemic. Maybe he had too many effing carbs from bread. He’s also in his 60s. Cut him some slack. You just can’t face that all your arguments are based on assumptions and not fact. Asteroidk said he never had a drink in his hand post Covid ! The holiday in Ibiza is post Covid him meeting Nick Wood in LA this past April is post Covid sharing a pint! And I have it on good authority that he was inebriated at the restaurant! So take it with a grain of salt like you said… Lol. I wasn’t looking for photos of him with a drink. You obviously didn’t fully read or understand that I was mocking your post for making absolutely ridiculous assumptions. I’m a huge DM fan and Fletch will be missed. He was the glue of The band and often worked behind the scenes with the business side of the band. I really hope they are able to find a way to continue

I’m a DM fan but obviously not as big a fan as I am of DD. DM’s recent albums have been of very poor quality, whereas duran are still making great music in my opinion. My understanding is that Fletch was never really a creative part of the process of making music in DM & was only really in the band as he was Martin Gore’s best mate. Critics have often derided Nick’s keyboard playing on this board obviously haven’t seen Fletch in concert. His keyboards skills literally involved him standing behind the keyboards & clapping his hands. However, without his role in the band it’s unlikely DM would have lasted as long as they with the various tensions between Gore & Gahan. A new DM album is expected for later in the year. It will be interesting to see whether they tour this album & continue making music. I can’t quite imagine DM as a duo.

Richard Blade is doing an hourly honor to him on 1st Wave .. he said when Dave and Martin couldn’t agree on anything he was the breaking tie when it came to anything creatively …

A few people have mentioned Ray Liotta in addition to Fletch, but yesterday brought another gut-punch for me in the passing of Yes drummer Alan White. Apart from his work with Yes it was also samples of his powerful drumming that formed the backbone of early Art of Noise tracks such as "Close (To The Edit)" and "Beat Box". As a big fan of both bands, White's loss hit me hard. And that was before I found out about Liotta. And that was before I found out about Fletch.
I went out for a drive last night and after I turned on my mp3 player, the first song that came up was Depeche Mode's "It's No Good", and my mind was so occupied with other things that it was almost a full two minutes before I remembered that he was gone.
As much as I love Depeche Mode, I've always thought of Fletch-- and I hope this doesn't sound brutal, because I don't mean it to-- as kind of part of the wallpaper in the room. I've never paid the kind of attention to him that I have to Dave as the frontman, or to Martin as the main songwriter. Still, this really sucks and my heart goes out to his family, friends, and fans.
I can see the band going on without him, but man, it sure would be weird trying to get used to that new wallpaper.

Some fans bumped into both Fletch and Martin over the last few months and both have said that an album is planned but they were waiting on Dave who's been busy with Soulsavers. Martin has said he had started writing songs for the next album though. Sad that some fans saw Fletch only weeks ago and he seemed completely fine. It does hit close to home and make you realise the hour is later than we think.
