I have a bit of a hobby that drags me down various rabbit holes now and then - restoring poor VHS taped copies of "Friday Night Videos" episodes. In 1983, the video that was aired of New Moon On Monday seems to be a specific version that was left off of the DVD collection, despite that DVD collection including 5 versions of that video. Baffling. Why include 5 versions, but leave the one off people might remember from TV? Anyways, I'm desperately searching for a clean source of that specific version of the video. For reference, the poor VHS quality of this version of the video can be found at archive.org archive.org/details/duran-duran-new-moon-on-mondayAnyone know where a clean source of this could be found?

Hey, yeah, that version is also the one played on MTV back then. As far as I know, there are only VHS sources of this version: --- duranduran.fandom.com/wiki/17_Videos_Tiedduranduran.fandom.com/wiki/17_Songs_Tied_-_US:_36381_-_D65089duranduran.fandom.com/wiki/15_Videos_Tied--- The rip I have on my HD is not better, compared to the one you have uploaded to archive.org Here is another archive.org-source for this video --- archive.org/details/duran-duran-new-moon-on-monday-rock-america-aor-april-1984--- New Moon On Monday (Short Version) 4:45 Director: Brian Grant Locations: Noyers, Bercy and Paris, France Audio Portion: Album Version, which fades out earlier. Notes: This is an edited version for broadcast on MTV. It was included on 17 SONGS TIED and 17 VIDEOS TIED, but does not appear on GREATEST - THE DVD. --- durancompilations.com/videos5.html---

Thanks - that archive link is a bit cleaner than my awful VHS rip, that will do for now.
As far as editing it from digital sources - parts, yes. But early on the first cut that deviates from other versions with a car in the shot - nowhere to be found. I spent some time attempting it the best I could, I found it to be nearly impossible.

There are quite a few shots that exist only in the "MTV" edit, including some of my absolute favorite bits out of all the versions. I'm lucky to have a pretty high quality version, higher than that "Rock America" Archive copy, that I got off of Youtube years ago before it disappeared. It's the only version I watch other than the full length "movie" version.

Wow - seems someone couldn't ever make a decision, and so they just created mass confusion instead.
Another example - so I find a youtube file of a few early FNV episodes, with videos edited out. So I'm editing them back in, and "Hungry Like The Wolf" is in the video vote. And the end of the video, where the title overlay comes in, is not lining up with the end of the video from the DVD rip I flew in.
Which is quite maddening, because this ain't the first FNV episode restoration I've done with this video - how could I have overlooked this before?
And I pull up the previous restoration I did - sure enough, the end of the video is edited differently from my current DVD rip - where the heck did I get this source from?
And then I remember - that's right, I bought a DVD set of various 80s videos - 3 DVD box "Pure '80s the ultimate dvd box", disc 1 is "totally new wave" which includes "Hungry Like The Wolf" - I bought this set before I bought the Duran Duran DVD set, and had used this one. Turns out - this set has the version aired on FNV (and probably MTV) back then - The Duran Duran set, ends differently.
Probably no big deal, but figured I may as well document this somewhere.
