This song does not deserve the hatred from this word salad dump by C.K. Whatever. Makes me question having ever liked that fanzine. The article is from a while back by a dedicated fan who posts here (but not at all lately). He writes a lot of satirical stuff, but this seems “serious.” It’s purely opinion, and everyone’s entitled to one, but from reading the article it seems he doesn’t care for the song mainly because it’s so different to the Notorious album. I personally like the song, but besides only involving the three members from that time, it doesn’t share much DNA with the other music from that era. & that’s partly how I evaluate it Sure SLB does some nice stuff with the vocal, after all it’s the B side to his incredible vocal on skin trade It’s got to be somehow related I imagine Si was in that particular umm singing zone Thing with me is, when I compare WNY to every other DD B side (up to that time), I prefer all other B sides to it I even prefer Secret October to it and I’m led to believe SO was only a collaboration between Nick and Si rather than Nick, Si & John as the case with WNY That’s just me Now here’s a talking point, Was Secret October the first ever Arcadia song?………………..…………………discuss !

Haven't played this for such a long time but I've always enjoyed it. Will have to give the track a spin soon.
Similarly I like its AYNIN-era brother too, 'This Lost Weekend'. Just a shame it isn't officially available digitally (still!)

WNY is one of my all time favourites, b-sides and otherwise!
I got into DD between Wild Boys and AVTAK time, so Notorious was the first DD album whose release I was witness to. Yes, I also was around with Arcadia, but Notorious was a "real DD" album, even though Roger and Andy had left. So the release of Notorious was very special to me. And yes, I was a little disappointed Notorious included an album track instead of an original b-side, even though I probably didn't know it at the time of the single's release, and hey, Winter Marches On was still a new, unheard song regardless! But when Skin Trade was released and had We Need You as the b-side, well, now here was a truly proper unique b-side!
I always found WNY to be a very sweet, earnest and sincere little love song. I always found that guitar to be quite lovely, reminding me a bit of Elton John's version of Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds. But the lyrics (and Simon's delicate performance) I found myself relating to it, and expressing my feelings perfectly towards oh-so-many unrequited loves during my 8th grade year in Jr. High.
I definitely like it better than A Matter of Feeling (no contest for me).

Yes I hope all is well with that particular poster. I miss their contributions around the place.
