Arena a cross between a greatest hits and sort of a live album.
instead of a 4th FAB 5 studio album release they went with Arena.
Wild Boys had to be the first single from a new album. Not Arena. At the time DD were at the top of the world. After A view a greatest hits would be a better option.

That's why JT & AT started Power Station ... Eventually they reunited for 007 and that's it. I agree, WB was a great hit and should had been followed by another album .. but ..

It was forecast in 'the ragged tiger'. The schedules of 80's acts that had success were brutal.

I do love the Malcolm Garrett designs of that whole Arena era.

I do love the Malcolm Garrett designs of that whole Arena era. Even the board game? For me, it's where the designs jumped the shark.

Arena was released at the peak of their imperial phase yet it now seems like a last gasp from the Berrows and / or EMI. It's not a very good live album with way too many songs off S&TRT which was only a year old at this time. WB should have been the super early lead single from a new album released at some point in 85. Don't get me wrong, I truly love the Arcadia album but they had the opportunity to be the defining band of the 80s and instead they split down the middle. We will never know what went wrong. Something happened in the summer of 84 after the Sing Blue Silver tour. My guess is the sessions for WB brought about a breakdown which is maybe why Don't Look Back never got completed at the time. By the time of AVTAK things were really messy between them but a Bond theme was too big an opportunity to turn down, whatever the differences.

Arena was the first DD album I owned, and WB the first 12". There is nothing wrong with either, though the 7" variant sleeves could have each had a different Bside IMO. EMI were late to the party when it came to issuing different content across the formats of a release; however with their reach I understand why they didn't adopt the trend earlier.
