Lay Lady Lay should definitely count (12" and cd, as others noted) SAP (live from Arena) should as well. Burning the Ground, too. Too Late Marlene...hmmm ? Definitely "Lay Lady Lay" since it was issued in Italy and Spain. As for "Too Late Marlene" - that was issued as a promo 12" single and much like "Breath After Breath" shouldn't be included. Now, I think this thread should be titled "How Many COMMERCIAL Studio Singles Released?" since it should only pertain to singles release for the consumer - i.e. readily available to buy in stores / online and NOT issued promotionally to radio stations / in-house, etc.

I feel that Breath After Breath and Femme Fatale should count as singles since they made videos for both and I'm pretty sure both were official singles in at least one country. I also think Nice should count even though there is no video for it since it got an official digital release.

Ok, great. I think that the standard should at least be 'Internationally Released', and 'made by the band'. So unless a single has been released to the world, I dont think it counts as a single, but a promo. But if we take promos off the list, the number of singles goes down. So lets list the controversial ones 1985 "Save A Prayer" (live) (yes?) 1985 "Planet Earth" (live) (US only) (no) 1987? Too Late Marlene (no) 1993 Drowning Man (yes?) 1993 "None of the Above" (japan only) 1993 Breath After Breath (no?) 1993 Femme Fatale (no) 1995 "Lay Lady Lay" (yes?) 2005 "Nice" (yes) 2010 "Boys Keep Swinging" (no?) 2011 "Leave A Light On" (u.s. promo) (no) 2015 "What are the Chances?" (promo) (no?) 2015 "Last Night in the City" (Yes, has video) 2021 "All Of You" Remix (no) 2021 LAUGHING BOY (February 9th 2022) (no)

This is so nerdy but fun. My notes/opinion added to your list. I think that the standard should at least be 'Internationally Released', and 'made by the band'. So lets list the controversial ones 1985 "Save A Prayer" (live) (yes?) - Commercial, physical release - Yes1985 "Planet Earth" (live) (US only) (no) - I forgot about this but lean No 1987? Too Late Marlene (no) - No, promo only in Brazil 1993 Drowning Man (yes?) - Yes, had 7" jukebox and 12" commercial single1993 "None of the Above" (japan only) - Yes1993 Breath After Breath (no?) - has video but I think only a promo release in Argentina so No. Great song though! 1993 Femme Fatale (no) - has video and was a single release in France so Yes1995 "Lay Lady Lay" (yes?) - 12" single in Italy, maybe other territories so Yes2005 "Nice" (yes) - Yes2010 "Boys Keep Swinging" (no?) - Feels like a yes because of 7" commercial release2011 "Leave A Light On" (u.s. promo) (no) - No 2015 "What are the Chances?" (promo) (no?) - No 2015 "Last Night in the City" (Yes, has video) - Yes and remixes2021 "All Of You" Remix (no) - I think yes because commercial release2021 LAUGHING BOY (February 9th 2022) (no) - No

It's a fun discussion regardless.

Despite "Breath After Breath" getting a video and promo single, it was never released for purchase as a single - hence why it shouldn't be included.

Given that there are so many opinions in this, using the DD.com list is probably the best. The FP and DM era is dubious though, with bonus tracks even counted! Otherwise, my stance is that singles died post 2007!

I always thought Breath After Breath got an official release in South America which is why I thought it should be included. I stand corrected.
