Anyone else catch that hint from Nick in the official press release that this is a taste of what's to come in Jonus' upcoming live show movie of the MSG gig?!
No doubt that'll be a lovely blu-ray box set with the Budokan Paper Gods show. 🙃

Anyone else catch that hint from Nick in the official press release that this is a taste of what's to come in Jonus' upcoming live show movie of the MSG gig?! I was thinking the same thing. Rumours of it being released this year? It would be hard to comprehend two Halloween shows being released in the same year, until I realised that the first one from 2022 was NOT a release! It was a showing, on Stageplayer, and recently on other platforms. It was not a DVD/Blu-ray. So maybe this will be an official 'hard media' release! release? Gotta have some RELEASE!

The Cure and Depeche Mode are bigger live bands. And above all both those bands never spilt at their pick.Ok DM at some point lost Alan Wilder but Alan although very talented wasnt the heart of DM. Duran on the other hand did split in 1986 and by 2000 they were a different band. If DD didnt spilt in 1986 their status today would be like U2 The Cure and DM. Maybe maybe… but we wouldn’t have TWA, or Medazzaland (which I love) It would’ve been an interesting scenario in the early 90’s, to see how Andy would’ve competed with the dominance of grunge music.

The Cure sold out three consecutive nights at MSG last year. And sold out bigger venues outside the US too (i.e: Estadio Monumental, Santiago, 62k seats, November 2023). It doesn't matter if The Cure or Depeche Mode hasn't got a #1 hit, they are bigger bands and there is plenty of evidence of this on several charts and tickets sold worldwide. Since 1990 The Cure and Depeche Mode had a lot of Top Ten UK and US albums, DM being the most successful of the two. Every DM album since 1990 is a Top Ten US album with the exception of Memento Mori (US #14 which is still great). Spotify numbers of both bands are also bigger than DD's. Having said that, there are very cool DD milestones, like the recent sold out show at MSG, and the viral success of Invisible (which is quite an anomaly), but this is more the exception than the rule. I do agree with you regarding The Cure and Depeche Mode not changing their formula too much. Most of their albums follow a similar pattern (especially The Cure ones). However, I'm not so sure DD should follow this path. One of DD's strengths is that they take risks and change their sound with every album, just like Bowie did before them. Sure, not every DD fan likes that, but this the main reason I like DD more than Cure and DM. Cure's album debuted at #4 on US Billboard LW and this week fell 70 places to 74! Which happens with legacy artists, but that means they put all their eggs in 1 basket and pushed everything 1st week..would love to see that with DD. We see gradual falls every week but to debut at #4 is Great! PG was top 10 at #10 thanks to Warner--I don't see much happening with BMG and DD's promotion company with any new releases if we get Reportage or another new album down the road... I think that Paper Gods and the Warner Music deal is when the band realized it’s not worth to invest so much in promotion these days.

IMO, In a similar manner to what AT did on the Astro LP I think AT prefers more classic electronic guitar rather than acoustic / esoteric

Could you please show me where I could read about that?

IMO, In a similar manner to what AT did on the Astro LP I think AT prefers more classic electronic guitar rather than acoustic / esoteric Good stuff here.. Not bad, however not sure about this chains version, I actually prefer the LP version Had AT had the patience and will power to hang around for more than just 3 DD LPs worth by 1983, it woulda been great to see his total potential long term eg SAP has a fantastic anthem-ic 🎸, which is well balanced with all the electronic synth soundscapes Nick was throwing into it something that I don’t think would be easy to blend like synths and anthemic type 🎸 this anthemic type 🎸 was very rare in early DD works, yet it’s nailed on SAP
