Like others before me, I would suggest changing the diet. Beagles are a very intellegent breed. We had one named Boomer (RIP) when we were growing up. I've never seen a smarter dog than that one.

If his food has ground yellow corn as the first ingredient, there's your problem. Give him a lamb/rice formula and his butt will be silenced.

i just wanted to add that sanford farted all over me last night on the couch.
ACK!!!
i think it's b/c we went to the beach, though. he ws smelling and picking up some nasty dead beach things until i made him drop each and every one of those things.
white rice and green beans are good to feed them for loose poo...not sure about farts, though.

We just said goodbye to our beagle-bassett this week. Whoever said beagles are smart - by breed, not so much. Beagles rank 72 in the intelligence by breed. Our dog was dumber than a bag of hair but we loved him madly and he has left a huge hole in our home.
And he also had wicked gas. Try changing to the lamb/rice food as someone else stated - that, and homemade food worked too (brown rice, cottage cheese, eggs or meat, some green beans, and vitamin supplements).

Beagles have a reputation for being escape artists. I would say that's a definite sign of intelligence. Boomer could get out of any fenced yard - even if he was tethered!
