Just read this on Yahoo. I didn't buy into Bono's God complex 100% before but now..! Bono moves in mysterious ways
LONDON (Reuters) - For Anglicans who still haven't found what they're looking for, the Church of England is staging its first "U2-charist" communion service -- replacing hymns with hit songs by the Irish supergroup.
"Rock music can be a vehicle of immense spirituality," said Bishop of Grantham Timothy Ellis, announcing plans for the unique service in the central English town of Lincoln in May.
A live band is to play U2 classics like "Beautiful Day" and "Mysterious Ways" with special singalong lyrics displayed on a giant screen. Seating for the 500-strong congregation is to be re-arranged so everyone can dance and wave their hands.
The service is to focus on the Millennium development goals -- U2's lead singer Bono is a leading promoter of the targets to alleviate world poverty.

I think I've heard about somewhere in the States. I guess they get a good turnout at the churches that do it. Hey if it brings the people in, I'm sure churches will continue to use it.

I would go to a church that offers more contemporary music. The church I used to attend tried to get permission. They wanted to put together a rock and roll service. They thought it would bring in more teens. They were refused by someone. Maybe the Vatican (it's a Catholic church).

I don't think U2 have anything to do with the U2charist personally. I think it's just the work of some zealous fans. I'm an atheist, but I've been to the Saint John Coltrane Church in San Francisco, which was fascinating... www.saintjohncoltrane.com/

I dont think this is Bono going around saying he wants their songs in churches. Most churches see it as a tool to reach out to a younger audience to sway them into ways of the said religion. There are alot of songs that could be used that have a powerful message that could be interpreted that way. I think it's just something they want to have during the service that makes them feel good and sends a message.

Bono, Larry and Edge were part of a Born Again Christian community when they were younger, so I think that they'd be glad that their music is being used in this way.

I stopped really liking them after the Joshua Tree because all the trendys at school thought they were the best. Back then I hated the TRENYS.
I still enjoy a lot of their music though.

Bono is a hypocrite. You know how he goes around preaching how governments should be donating more of their citizens' salaries, ahem, tax payments, to charity? Well, the Sydney Morning Herald just had a lovely article yesterday explaining how not only does Bono not donate any money to charity, but he also DOES NOT PAY TAX. Yup, Ireland had a law that said that music royalties were exempt from income tax. It's now changing the law, so what did Bono do? He moved his home for tax purposes to the Netherlands, where he still won't have to pay tax. Nice! This guy pays essentially no money to the government in income tax, and doesn't donate to charity, but he's telling governments to give any more of other people's tax money to charity. What an ass. Let me see if I can find the link to the article . . . .
