So sad. And just when it seemed like he was going to make it.

This broke my heart. I've been praying for him since he broke his leg and have been following his weekly updates at the U. of Penn website for months.
The last thing I did last night before I went to sleep was to say a prayer for him. I wanted him to have a happy ending.

That is really sad. It's such a hard decision to make usually but if you know they're going to be in pain and not have any quality of life, what can you do? It's also a heartbreaking decision, I've been there twice with horses and if you're as attached to animals as I am to mine, you'll know just how much of a bastard decision it is even when you know you're doing the right thing in ending their pain and suffering before they do it on their own.

If not euthanized he would have died on his own. A most painful death from laminitis.

What a loss. The surprizing thing is that I was just discussing this with my husband just this morning before he left for work, and then I hear the news about him at noon. It's too bad he couldn't be saved.

I own and breed Thoroughbred racehorses and believe me, it's been a very, very sad day for those of us directly involved with the racing industry and those that love animals alike. We put our all into what we do and when one breaks down it's incredibly hard. Like others of his breed, Barbaro showed the tremendous heart and guts that Thoroughbreds are known for. He just had that special something that will place him with the greats of the sport of Kings. And he will be sadly missed. Now its time to ease your pain Nothing for you done in vain
Your life like your speed much to fast Take your place with legends past
The starting gate opens one last time Run my friend leave this world behindGodspeed, Barbaro
