I will always love Christmas Story b/c I was practically in the movie. My family and I went downtown when they were filming the scenes in front of Higbee's. Since my parents grew up in the 40s, my sister and brother and law dressed up in period costumes trying to get on as extras. They didn't but we had a blast. I was about 11 then and I could not dress b/c it was January and I was wearing the then-fashionable moon boots. Remember those?? One holiday show that I love not mentioned here is Ziggy's Gift. It melts your heart. You must be from Cleveland. Have you seen the museum there in the house? Years after I first saw it, I found out it was based on a town I then worked in (Hammond Indiana). I found this out because I met one of the people who had a character based on them (I think it was Flick). Really interesting. they say they lived in a town called Hohman, but that's a street there. Now when I watch it, I look for the local references (nearby Griffith Indiana, The Chicago Bears, etc).

Hand's down:
"It's a Wonderful Life"
Believe it or not, my grandfather, who looks a bit like "George Bailey" also believed the same things about home ownership and the dignity of the working man. He owned a real-estate and insurance company and worked very hard to get people a piece of the American dream. Later, as a state representative, he wrote "the Pennsylvania Consumer Credit Act" which became the outline for the "Federal Truth in Lending Law." We think about him and cry a little every time we watch the movie, and we always bawl our eyes out at the end.

La Princess: Yes, I'm from Cleveland. The movie was filmed in Cleveland and St. Catharine's, Ontario but based on the author's childhood in Indiana. No, I have not seen the original house...I am kinda torn to go since I have heard bad things about it. Plus, it's not in a great neighbourhood either. Someday I will see it, it's only worth seeing for the outside anyways (no filming was done inside).
