www.bitsofnews.com/content/view/4773/42/Here's just a tid-bit from the article. "That's why it seems a strange choice for a remake. The classic "Doctor Who" style special effects filtered through French pop-art and sheer delirium is a big part of what makes the film work, in its weird way. And redoing that today would be hard, not to mention a hard sell. Perhaps the Luc Besson who made "The Fifth Element" could pull it off. But he's sworn off directing (if we are to believe the man himself). According to NBC30, via Filmstalker, Producer Dino De Laurentiis is claiming that it won't be a remake as such. He's calling it "a completely new 'Barbarella,'" which sounds very much like a remake after all. And it will have copious amounts of "love, sex, adventure." So, the questions before us are: Should this be done at all? Which director could do it? And which actress has the juice to blow out the mighty Orgasmotron?"

Notice they spelled the villain's name "Duran Duran". Isn't it Durand Durand?

Dr. Durand Durand from the comic strip. I have a copy of the comic strips I haven't read them in a while and they're nothing like the original 1968 film.
I love the campy 68 barbarella. I hope they choose a different story line than (find Duran Duran in Tau Seti before he destroys the world but have lots of sex along the way) The one used in the 60's.
a more up to date version would not include an evil, psychadelic gelatinous mass (mathmos) it isn't groovey, baby.
unless this version was layed out like the Austin Powers comedy series. that might be fun.
I am thinking about other scifi movie styles. I think StarWars style is out but blade runner might be fun.
maybe they will have something more ... interesting in mind than rehashing out old stories/styles.
what about an animated version instead? hmm... suddenly I am thinking about AniMatrix.
