Check out the soundtrack for "The Fountain" featuring Chris Mansell and the Kronos Quartet....good stuff. I also liked the movie as well....

I still love the soundtrack of 'The Hunger', although most of it are very famous classical pieces. As for original STs, I like 'Siesta' by Miles Davis and whoever writes Hal Hartley soundtracks- one simple electric guitar.
HATED 'Notes From a Scandal'!!!!!!! People need to stop hiring Philip Glass!!!!

After seeing it mentioned in the 'all-time greatest' lists of so many artists I admire, I bought Can's 'Tago Mago'. I quite like it, as weird as it is. Can is definitely an acquired taste, but you went with the right introductory album. Future Days is also worth a look. Here's a bit of totally useless trivia: The Mooney Suzuki got their name from the last names of the two lead singers of Can.

HATED 'Notes From a Scandal'!!!!!!! People need to stop hiring Philip Glass!!!! I totally agree with you - his score was the one sucky-suckass thing about The Hours! And his work on Scandal sucked too! Gah, he's like Chinese water torture in fast-forward, all the repeating fugues and loudness and repetitive, angsty monotony! i swear, he comes up with one loud minor glisando, and then repeats it over and over and over in his computer orchestration program - copy, paste, copy, paste, copy, paste!!! Kill the Phillip Glass crap already!!!

schmacko - i absolutely love the score for "talk to her" (the movie is also one of my favorites!)! i never tire of listening to it. the same composer, alberto iglesias, also scored "sex and lucia" which is nice score, though not quite as good as "talk to her" (good flick too, i like it). of recent scores both "pan's labyrinth" (javier navarrete) and "the illusionist" (philip glass) really impressed me when i saw the films, so i want to get the CD's ... does anyone like/know arvo pärt, an estonian composer? i just love his stuff - he's referred to as a "sacred minimalist" ... the first thing i ever heard by him years ago was "speigel im speigel" so i'll include it here - i have other stuff but this one is a good introduction (i should post in the "music room" too i guess.) it is is WMA format, all i have on my computer. note - it is VERY quiet, that's how it is meant to be. you can barely hear the instruments at the start ... www.fileden.com/files/2006/9/1/197727/01%20Spiegel%20Im%20Spiegel.wma*edited to fix link*

I'm listening to Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. Sixteen minutes of pure pleasure. Also, I have an audiobook of Much Ado About Nothing. I like Shakespeare.
