Here in Ontario we've had a public smoking ban for almost a year, and it didn't come fast enough for me; love going for a pint without having that shit in the air anymore. Anybody who thinks smokers' rights are being violated and that non-smokers should just go somewhere else, etc. should be asked this: Is it that big an imposition to have smokers wait until their meal/drinks are finished before lighting up? If I were a sex addict, does that mean my rights are infringed because my date and I can't "tear off a piece of ass" at the table after our dessert and coffee?
Anyone who can't respect other people long enough to indulge their baser instincts for a couple of hours has serious problems. At least the smoker gets to have a fix as soon as he walks out the restaurant door; I have to wait at least until I get to the car.

Here in Portland the City Council has passed a smoking ban in the outdoor (yes, I said outdoor) main square downtown in our Pioneer Courthouse Square. They call it "Portland's Living Room" so they figure that it's a family place & therefore they should ban smoking there. You know, I don't smoke, and am glad to be in restaurants where it's smoke free, but I have to say COME ON with this law. It's outdoors for crying out loud!! They've banned most indoor smoking at this point except for bars I believe so I just think it's silly to not give people an outdoor place to smoke if that's what they need to do. They are now aiming at banning smoking in all parks, golf courses and PIR which is Portland International Raceway where they race cars & such. The Commissioner who is pushing all this smoking ban stuff also wants to ban it on sidewalks. Again, I don't smoke, but really, come on. I think it's going a bit far. Here are a couple of articles that briefly mention the additional targets for smoking bans here in POrtland IF you're interested... www.oregonlive.com/oregonian/stories/index.ssf?/base/news/1168316716218920.xml&coll=7 and www.oregonlive.com/oregonian/stories/index.ssf?/base/news/117013112295050.xml&coll=7
I hope I made those clickable!!! Tina

Hope you don't mind me horking it from you when I go off on smokers!! I too can't wait for Texas to be smoke free in September (in my city). BRING IT ON!! I never understood smokers who think their rights are being invaded as they stand and blow smoke in my face. Yes, I too have asthma and smoke kills my lungs. I don't go clubbing much anymore but when in NY and we go out it is so very nice to come back to my hotel not stinking of smoke. NASTY!

I remember those days when I would go into a bar and come home and have to shower and wash my clothes before going to bed. I remember those days, too. I remember no matter what my level of "intoxicatedness" (LOL) was, I'd be in the shower (sometimes holding myself up with one hand on the shower wall with the bathroom spinning ;D) because I couldn't stand going to bed with my hair and skin reeking like smoke. Also throwing my clothes in the washing machine.

Well I don't care either way I guess. And I just quit smoking in July 06 after having a 10+ yr habit. I have not really been out anywhere yet though that people do smoke due to my own health issues at the moment. But I don't think it would bother me either way. Or if it did I think I would just leave. Hopefully I will be well enough again to try it out ( not smoking just the going out part) LOL... And the only place where I would run into that problem would be in VEGASSSS!!! Dang I wanna feel good again so I can go.
