I must agree, band sites should be mainly free. if you want to purchase merchandise and music that's fine. DD.com is badly in need of a redo, I hope this one doesn't stink.

Thanks for setting up a new site, Mark! This beats Fullerene by miles.

I dunno, I haven't seen any indication that the band intends to put up a new messageboard. They didn't mention such a plan in the message.
I'm willing to bet that the new website won't have a message board, and they'll let DDM be the closest thing they have to an 'official' one.

If that is the case, and there is no "official" DD message board outside of DDM - then this one seems to be working just fine and people seem to be adjusting to the relocation. It offers more than DD.com's ever did and it appears alot of the same people have joined and are enjoying it. So what's the difference? Besides it not being the official one.....which doesn't mean a thing. Some of the best boards I've come across are fan created. This board has already surpassed DD.com as far as features go - and with ProBoards you can add quite a few more if you choose to.
As far as making money goes - I don't see what they did as a scheme to make more money. They said DDM was ONE option, not the only option. At the end of the day, we all have the final choice. Opinions on DDM have been made quite clear by many folks on the DD.com board - so I can't see them sitting around hoping to bank in on a few more $35 yearly fees. Especially when they knew many would not be happy about this change, hence not luring them to DDM.
Whether DD offers me a free MB doesn't have weigh in on whether or not I'm a fan - for me, it's about the music they produce and if I find it entertaining. It's been about the music since 81 when their was no such thing as fan boards.

I agree it'll be good (and long overdue) if they do launch a fab revamped site, but there is no reason on earth to close down the existing board while that is developed.
And as many have pointed out, not having a board as part of your official site, for casual passers by and potential new fans to browse, is just bizarre, and a big step backwards.

I see taking the board off the official site as a step backwards too. I guess they didn't want to spend resources on moderating it is all I can come up with.
Ah well... I see a lot of people I got to know on that board are popping in here... at least most of us will stay in touch.

I think most people from DD.Com will come over here once they get to know the board exists (they should do by now) and it's so good seeing so many familiar people even though I've never met any of you. Maybe some day.
