I heard about this story on the radio while driving home from work. Apparently the 13 year old was pierced against her will with a bar and ring to make penetration impossible, because she had sex with two different 30 year old men. The mother considered her uncontrollable and she had run away more than once.

COLLIER COUNTY: One woman is facing jail time for piercing a 13-year-old Naples girl's genitalia against her will. The piercing was an alleged punishment. Court records say the girl's mother and her friend pierced the girl to stop her from having sex with two adult men.
Experts say genital piercing is an uncomfortable procedure even if you want it. But if you don't, it can be very dangerous.
Tammy Meredith is headed to jail for piercing the 13-year-old girl's genitals with a bar and hoop. Prosecutors say Meredith was a friend of the girl's mother, who asked her to do the piercing to prevent the teen from having sex.
Piercing and tattoo technician Chris Bath, of Cherry Hill Tattoos, was shocked when he heard the story.
"If they're squirming a lot, there can be damage done - tearing, pulling. If someone doesn't want to do it, you can't make them. They're not going to sit through it properly, correctly," said Chris Bath of Cherry Hill Tattoos. "Going to that distance in that area, that's just beyond a punishment. That's just unsafe and abusive."
Bath says a lot could have gone wrong - especially if Meredith didn't know what she was doing with a piercing gun. In addition to aggravated child abuse, she was charged with owning and operating a piercing tool without a license.
Bath says most licensed piercing parlors don't use guns, or at least they shouldn't. They use sterilized needles and sterilized bars and hoops.
Because the area is so delicate, especially at that age, if Meredith didn't follow the same safety procedures, there's a lot that could be irreversibly damaged.
"Nerves, blood vessels, things like that, which can cause uncontrollable bleeding or loss of feeling in some areas," said Bath.
There is currently no word on the girl's physical condition, but child health experts say the emotional scars could be just as bad.
"People do things to children that are harmful, and even though they may be the parent of that child, it's not OK," said Jackie Stephens of the Children's Advocacy Center.
The girl's mother is due in Collier circuit court in February on abuse charges. The girl has since been removed from her mother's custody.
Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff's Office explained that prosecutors have charged one of the men the girl allegedly had sex with for sexual battery of a child age 12 to 15.
